Some are being shuttled to the shipyard for work. I'll ask my son this evening if he knows who he should talk to.

OK, looking for a little help here.  Our son reports Friday to the Truman, but he is unsure what that actually means with the Truman in the Shipyard at present.  His "sponsor" has been of no help so far, other than telling him to call the Truman specifically to find out what he needs to do as far as reporting goes.  He will arrive around 1800 hrs on Friday.  He has not made any arrangements as to housing, etc. at this time.  Can anyone guide us here a little bit.  This is his first actual assignment coming from basic and then A school.

We live in CA. Sailor just finished nuke school in NY & bought a car there & registered it there (previous car was registered in CA). Now he's heading to VA. Do you think he can register his car back in CA when he's home on leave or do you think he should he keep it registered in NY?

A vehicle is pretty necessary.  Shopping and entertainment is spread out, even on base.  Our daughters living quarters are a 15-20 minute drive from the piers.  Now with the Truman in the yard, she is taking a shuttle to the ship most days to save the trouble of driving.  She is leaving her car registered at home for now.  She says everyone has told her registering a vehicle in Va is a pain.

My son thought he wouldn't need a vehicle there. A week after he arrived at Virginia Beach he bought a truck. But if possible don't register in Virginia. They require annual inspections.

Can anyone in this group advise as to the necessity of having a car once he arrives in Norfolk?

Welcome Steve. Looks like our sailors will be arriving on the HST about the same time!

Our son graduates from IT A school on Jan. 16.  Then, home for a couple of weeks and ultimately reporting to the USS Harry S Truman as his first duty assignment.
