Great pics KTR! It was a thrill to experience another homecoming of the Truman. My daughter was manning the rail on the port side and you've got a couple of pics that I was able to see her in. Needless to say, they were all a little "chilly" that morning. She's a part of squadron VAW 126 and this was her 2nd deployment as a part of Carrier Air Wing 3 aboard the Truman. Thanks for posting these!
So, would these pics of homecoming violate OPSEC?
posted by the Navy on Facebook...this used to considered secure info and would violate OPSEC if posted in the open.....those days have changed
Join us Friday morning and watch live as we welcome the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group home starting at 10 a.m. EDT: http://1.usa.gov/1pdsUfb
Flying in from Texas for homecoming. Meeting my newly minted nuke, Jan 2014 grad, has been on the Truman less than a month. Terribly excited.
My daughter finished A school for OS in December and had been stuck at Great Lakes. She's had orders assigning her to HST since finishing school. Just when it looked like she may on hold till HST returned she had new orders cut. Just came home for a couple weeks then leaves to go directly to HST. Surprised since they seem to be nearing end of deployment. She's nervous and excited.
Interesting. That scenario never occurred to me. Worse places to cool your heels than Norfolk. But he is a freshly minted nuke, so it seems to be a waste of a good training. Lol. Needs of the Navy, I suppose. I can't imagine he would be heartbroken about it.
Sorry KTR. I'm glad Jeff covered that scenario. I thought about that and then forgot to mention it. Jeff's right, they'll be coming home in a few months and probably then he'll join them. My daughter is a part of the Carrier Air Wing (VAW 126 fighting Seahawks) and this is her 2nd deployment aboard the HST. It's like her 2nd home now. Good ship, great people!
My son was in the same boat. Sorry, couldn't help myself. More than likley he will wait for them to return home. My son finished C school and the Truman was on deployment. He waited in Virginia 3 months until they returned. He wanted to fly out and meet them, but, never got the chance. They are due home in a few months, Thank God! Hope he enjoys this crew, my son respects all the Sailors on this ship!
Thanks, Bob. I figured as much. I saw some comments about "Greyhound." Lol, my son making a carrier landing, even as cargo, is something I never expected. Have been a naval aviation buff since jr high, and took him to a Blue Angels show when very young, but never discussed a military career with him. Oh, well, you never know. Just really proud of him.
