Terry that is great news about your son...Petty officer how proud you must be. Man and to have him stationed in Bangor. David is in the Atlantic somewhere after deploying last week on the Truman. All is well he says and the seas are a bit stormy. The 6 to 8 month venture begins. He was very ready as were most on the Truman as they were delayed several months. I wonder about that idiot leader in North Korea sinking that South Korean destroyer. Sounds like he is dumb enough to start a war. Prayers not but I guess that's why we always have to be ready. Blessings to Justin and you and your family.

Hi, everyone and hope all is well. We've been enjoying so much having our son, Justin, here in the area at his assignment at the Bangor/Kitsap sub base. And just today he excitedly told us he was promoted to MAA-3 (Petty Officer 3rd Class)! Of course we are so proud. And now he is really thinking seriously of going through OCS. Sounds like a fast track now!

Cora, with all apologies deserved (maybe "reserved," but definitely with tongue-in-cheek):

You live in Eastern Washington, if you go to across the border to North Idaho to fill up your vehicle with gas, buy cigarettes or alcoholic beverages (maybe even gum, bottled water and candy starting when the new taxes take affect) or just want to avoid the ever-growing state taxes.

You live in Eastern Washington if your kids are home for a week from school because of snow while the North Idaho children don't get any "snow days" at all.

You live in Eastern Washington if your trash isn't collected for weeks because of snow, but the regular trash runs continue on schedule in North Idaho.

You live in Eastern Washington if your 2008 Christmas presents ordered for delivery by UPS didn't arrive until 2009 because they "couldn't get there from here" while North Idaho residents had full UPS, FedEx and USPS daily deliveries and Santa paid his normal visit on December 25.

You live in Eastern Washington if your government offices shut down because of snow, while no one missed even a single day of work in North Idaho with even higher snowfall recordings.

You live in North Idaho (and didn't feel like starting a new group) if you're able to say the above with a smile on your face, all in fun (though true). :)

Hi Terry..... Yes it is tough to say good-bye,especially after only getting to see them for a couple of hours after nine weeks.Have to agree about the Christmas gift ever!James was home for two weeks over Christmas.Didn't get to see him a whole lot,yet more than when he was home over the fourth of July.It is duck hunting season and he spent quite a bit of time on the river!

James is in Port Hueneme. That was as close as he could get to home do to his rate.Word came down Thursday that he has made E-3 and he won't be able to take his quals. for E-4 until they get back from the sandbox. He has been studying for them for some time now!James has a tendency to stay close to base right now.He has only been there since September and he said there is a problem with gangs around there like most places one goes nowadays. One should not turn a redneck loose around certain types of people{:-)Hope your sailor gets to be close to home.Well, have a great day!

Steve !!!!!!!

We got word from our sailor that it's looking pretty good that he will be assigned to the Bangor Naval Base here after his MA school is done. We're sure hoping that will happen but we'll know more next week.

Hi, Steve...we just got back from our son's PIR on 04Dec09 and it was fantastic! Like you said, one of the most memorable times in our lives! He had to fly out to TX the next day but the airlines gave us passes to be with him until he boarded. It was hard to say good-bye but we just heard that he'll be flying home on Christmas night at 11:30PM. Best Christmas gift ever!
