Hey James,  Yes we are about two and a half hours to downtown Orlando.  Two hours and fifteen minutes to Disney.  We go there quite often.  Ryan is also CTR and is loving Navy life so far.  I told him to look for her when I talked to him last night.

It looks like you and I are not too far from each other...we are in Orlando area. What rate was your son going in at?  My daughter is CTR, she just missed rating CTI....Still an awesome field for them to be in.

I heard from my son last night.  He got there Saturday and expects to class up on Monday.  From what I have heard, he is pretty lucky.  His roommate is someone from his Div in boot camp, that he worked in the office with.  Expects to finish mid January at this point.

Just thought I would check in to see if anyone had heard from their Sailors as of late......

We are crossing fingers have not heard from my daughter yet but they were supposed to class up yesterday....only stuck hanging around for about a week if they were lucky.  She is in the CTR Field.  I am sure they will bump into each other over the next couple of months.  There were some rumors flying around they may have liberty over the Labor Day weekend....we shall see....I think the initial phase of the school is the same.....but the 2nd phase of the schooling is when they begin to diverge into their respective fields of expertise....whether it be maintenance, networking etc.....

James,

I'm afraid that I can't provide a great deal of insight into the CT training yet. Initial seems to be basic computer skills; hardware and software. The biggest issue your sailor may face initially will be when he / she will 'class up', which depends on when a requisite number of CTs arrive at Pensacola and instructors begin a new session. The new sailors end up w/ a fair amount of grunt work & watch until classes start, in addition to PT, inspections and gen. naval & military training. If you're not familiar w/ the phases (1, 2 & 3) of post-RTC sailors the A school group has some info & this website explains it in brief (http://usmilitary.about.com/od/navyjoin/l/bltrngrestrict.htm). Our James was fortunate to only have had to wait a couple of weeks to class up.  We've heard of others who have had to wait a couple of months. He still stands some watch but is in phase 2 and should progress to phase 3 in a few more weeks. Sailors must earn progression to phases and can fall back as well  for improper behavior. Best of luck to your sailor, I'm sure James will run into him or her. Honor, courage & commitment!

Rick,

You are now our leader.  Your son is ahead of the rest of us in the process.

Hello all. I'm new to the CT group and judging by the number of members, it's a pretty select group (like our sailors I guess). In any case, my son's PIR was 7/25. He was at Pensacola for 2 weeks before he 'classed up'. He has been in class for about 2 weeks now after having had 2 weeks of general duty, inspection, watch, etc... and seems to be enjoying the basic CT training a great deal more. He seems to have learned a lot already and has moved into phase 2, to which he is enjoying a bit more latitude (civy's and such). We've recently been through the vetting process here at home as well and assume all is well for him in that regard. Heard from him today that RTC is being expanded by 2 weeks to include additional combat training and he is lamenting that they did not receive that opportunity. Assume any further general preparedness would be incorporated at A school?

A funny OSU / MI story for any who may care to read (unrelated to CT) ... As many know, there is almost no bigger rivalry in sports than Ohio State v. Michigan U. Being from OH and an ardent Buckeye, my E2 son gets a bit of liberty his second weekend and goes to get some snacks with his roommate at a convenience store on base. He sees a guy walk in with a MI Wolverine t-shirt and immediately begins dishing out the proverbial pooh. The gentleman dishes it back. After a bit of back & forth smack talk, the gentleman in the MI shirt introduces himself to my fully uniformed, enlisted phase 1 son as Capt. So-in-So (don't recall the name) ... commanding officer of the adjacent base. My son said he about 'dropped a brick' in his shorts, snapped to attention and apologized for being insubordinate (but not for his team). I'm sure the Capt. was playing it for all it was worth, as he was not in uniform, and obviously new he had a mouthy phase 1 sailor he could have fun with. Moral of the story; be careful who you insult around a base, it could be another of your bosses.  I think the boy actually may have earned some points in the long run. The OSU / MI stories never get old if you're from this part of the country. Best to all of your sailors!

Welcome Aboard.  They should be classing up today.  My daughter PIR was on August 15.  She shipped out that Saturday morning and has been in Pensacola all week.  Rumor has it they may get "Liberty" this coming weekend.....we shall see....not the norm but a long weekend.
