Got a call from my son tonight and got to talk to him for almost an hour. First time I had talked to him in almost 3 months. Man what a proud dad I am! He also posted a picture on FB and my skinny boy is now a grown man who has been spending his free time in the Boxer's weight room while deployed. Amazing how he has changed since deployment began 8 months ago. I am proud of all the Boxer sailors and families. God speed on their remaining leg of deployment and great long hugs for all of us soon!!

I finally heard from my son this morning in an email. It only took a few sleepless night, several phone calls to Obudsman, countless emails to him and all of you reading my ranting post.

Thanks for all you your help and support.

I`m not going to SD but I will go home to KC to see him for a few days. Thanks again for everything Boxer group.

I may not be going to SD next month. Since my son doesn`t see fit to contact me unless he`s told to, I will not go not knowing that I will even see him in SD. Obudsman is helping but I haven`t heard back yet. I don`t expect anything yet as I just got off the phone with them. K has been a huge help but she can only do so much, It`s upi to him now.

Can someone send me a link to RSVP for the home coming party? Or am I too late?

Daniel, as we all know there are bad neighborhoods everywhere but SD is no South Central LA statistically speaking... We haven't had any "bad" neighborhood experiences in San Diego. Besides the Navy Lodge, we've stayed at these two decent places -- though not sure about public transportation availability and schedules:
http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/sanal-courtyard-san-diego-air...
http://www.wyndham.com/hotels/california/san-diego/wyndham-garden-s...

Across from the Wyndham Garden is the famous Phil's BBQ heheh http://www.philsbbq.net/

You may also wanna check this out as well to see what fits: http://www.sandiego.org/plan-your-trip/travel-guides/military.aspx

I was checking for a place to stay after the Tiger Cruise, but both Navy Lodges were already full.  Is there a "bad" part of San Diego I should stay away from?  I will only be there one night and don't want to spend a fortune on a room.  But, I'd like to be able to walk to a bus stop without getting mugged!

George glad to hear this! And good one Bob...

Because of my stupid worrysome nature I used to go psycho dad you know like call 10 times, email, text where are you, are you ok, call me now, what are you doing, etc... But never heard back...I think you all know where this is going..

Then one day BAM! It hit me like a ton of bricks my little boy is now a man and a Sailor crafting his future. Busy with his work life and needs that R&R time for himself it is no longer all about dad heheh! I learned to deal with these emotions and nowadays he calls me I no longer bug the crap out of him and yes it works!!

George, now that I've gotten that out of my chest. There are lots of hotels near base. I'm going to suggest Navy Lodge on 28th street from a price point and distance to base https://www.navy-lodge.com/lodge_page.html?p_lodge_number=12. Last time we visited my son though we stayed at Navy Lodge North Island (Coronado) where the beach is your backyard. He booked this for us! It's about a 15-20 minute ride to 32nd St. (Naval Base San Diego) but factor in gate traffic https://www.navy-lodge.com/lodge_page.html?p_lodge_number=10

Lots to do Sea World and Downtown San Diego. When you go shopping for a hotel specially if you decide in the downtown area which is also not too far from base ask about daily parking fee! One of my pet peeves is I don't pay for parking if I'm a guest but sometimes have no choice about this. Also free breakfast!

Hope you hear from your son soon and hang in there!
