Thank you to those who posted the "River City" information. Did not know anything about that. Haven't heard anything for a couple of weeks from the boy and was a little worried that he might have ended up in the brig after a port stop! Ha Ha.

if you haven't yet, check our Care Packages group at http://www.navydads.com/group/carepackagesforourtroops  for lots of hints and ideas....somewhere on there is Paige's killer jerky recipe --- that is always a real hit.

Does anyone know when the Boxer is due to arrive back in San Diego? I travel for a living and will drop everything to be out there to welcome them home.

To all of you that answered my questions, thank you so much. That helped put our families minds at ease. I forwarded all of your answers to my family. Bless you all.

George,
It takes awhile. Before the holidays some things I sent to my son seemed to take between 6-8 weeks. During the holidays I think they got stuff to our sailors much faster but not so much in the non-holidays. Be patient, it is my understanding that everything gets checked and possibly opened before it goes to the ship, that is one of the reasons I was told money is not a good idea. I went and asked my sons recruiter if there were any restrictions or amount restrictions and he said no. He gave a great tip for sending cookies. Put them into a mason jar and seal it and the cookies stay fresher!
