Thanks so much for the info and also to Cindy and Luis! Everyone has just been great with responses and it's good to hear from others who are proud of their sons and daughters. The US Mahan DDG-72, from what I understand, is the guard or "protector" ship for the Roosevelt? I'm assuming Nick is doing fine? It's been about 2 weeks since I've heard from him, but I have been in the process of getting his birthday and Christmas boxes ready to ship. Sometime I get the chance, I'll write a little more.
Thank you for the hints, I am still trying to navigate through this site. My son has prepared himself mentally and physically for the challenge ahead. I know he will be fine and do well. Thanks again I appreicate it.

could you pass this thought on..it is something we are doing for Navy Moms and thought i could pass this along to Navy Dads..
We are lighting a blue candle on Christmas day to burn 12 hours in honor of our military children.. We are burning it whether our child is home or not. Ours will be home.. but he needs to know his candle will always burn whether he is here or not and that our miltary children are remembered in honor on every holiday. We are starting it Christmas but will burn also on all holidays... and special days throuhout the years.
Our candle says....thoughts of you are on the wings of little prayers. I thankyou ,, I drive a truck and am gone most of the time but wanted to make sure I had the time to post this. Leon
Paul PIR was fantastic. I just commented Jim, and told him that I have never thought of the Navy as a marching service. The Instructors at Great Lakes did an outstanding job of getting these sailors ready for PIR and they looked sharp performing the close order drill. I added photos to my page of the PIR and the days following. Andrew was most proud when we were at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, walking around the exhibt of U505 a captured Nazi U boat. They people running the exhibit pulled Andrew and the family into line and said no ticket needed, Navy families stick together. I swear he walked a little taller and stuck out his chest a little more, I know that I did! Dave
Spoke to Kira on Tuesday and it looks like the Tiger Cruise is a go and she will give me more details as they become available. What I know so far is the plan is to come into port either at Mayport or Jacksonville, FL. So, we will for sure have to hookup while there. I am so looking forward to this and can hardly stand the wait to see Kira and the chance of a lifetime.
She also said that they are planning a friends and family day after they get back and where the ship will go out for a day crusie will all aboard before the ship goes into the yard for refit and refuel. However, it will be a 19 hour day for her and teh Raector Maintenance Division as they have to power up the reactors and then shut them down once the cruise is finished.
Hi Paul,
Phillip called us last Tuesday evening. It was great to hear from him although he sounded different from the 21 year old wiseguy that left home on November 19. He was more serious and mature. He spoke with mom awhile then me a short while. He informed us his division has a couple of knuckleheads who keep getting the group into trouble which means fewer calls home. Keeping our cell phones within reach 24/7 waiting for his next call. Thanks for asking. His call and his letters really make a difference. We miss him tremendously, but know he is well cared for and he absolutely loves it. We can't wait for PIR. Have a great weekend.
Rick
Paul I'm headed out the door to go hunting with my son so I'll be absent until tonight. I'll let you know how we did later tonight. I'm on a mission to find Bambi's dad. LOL
Fortunately for Conner he went in as E3 due to Eagle Scout ranking. He is REALLY proud of his MA badge...came home thinking he could "take me down" but this ol man still has a few moves...had great fun in backyard, am sure the neighbors were entertained. Kat's "staged photo"...where's his hand?? HA. Merry Christmas Paul!! Meg and Jeremy will be home on 23rd so I'll have my crew aboard...it's all good.
I didn't know Arizona was playing today and there's absolutely no problem for me routing against BYU. I never cheer for them! So, how did the Navy vs Wake Forest game turn out?
Well I just got back from San Diego and my son's graduation from FRAC school with HS10. I got to pin his "wings" on and that my have been the highest honor I have ever had, to be asked by my son, and be the only dad to be there and pin his son. I put an album together of that special time and it is available to view if you are interested. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas!
Paul, Meagan & Conner & Jeremy (you have'nt heard much about my new son-in-law, he's IT aboard the USS New York LPD21 in Norfolk, his job is so complicated I don't even know where to start, and, he is IT so I'll leave it there) were all very impressed by the N4D's site and Conner will log on frequently once he's settled in Bangor/Silverdale/Kitsap. You're a lot further along on all this than I am bro...reach out to Eric and Kat for us here in TN!
Hey, thanks for the link. I think I have checked every link for the Anzio and the Bainbridge. I went to NORVA and tagged along when Andy reported to the Anzio. Got to look her over. After check-in he found out he is being transferred to the Bainbridge. Nothing personal of course. Needs of the Navy. He was able to be home for Christmas. He leaves tomorrow morning to check out from the Anzio and report to the Bainbridge. I can't go this time, but I will as soon as I can.
Paul, thank you for the comments and glad to hear that your kids are having fun in the Navy. My son trebvor is currently on his way back to GL. to finish his A-school. he is in the AEF-AECF program. he had his P.I.R. back in August. moved across the streetand started his ATT school.
My wife and I couldn't be more proud of him as he made this decision on his own to have a way that he could support his family and not have to rely on us or her parents to get them started in life. We weren't to sure at first because he was passing up scholarships in music to do this, but we have since seen that this was the right decision for him and one that he was looking out for his young families future.

Hi Paul,
Thank you for the kind welcome!! I am and have been since July a very involved member of the N4M's site. I have been enjoying it immensely. I've made a number of good friends and gained a wealth of information along the way. I also research and learn as much as I can so that I am able to share what I've learned with others. So thank you - I am certain that as time allows I will do the same thing here on this site. I am really excited about it and looking forward to making new friends and seeking and sharing support with others.
And thank you for starting the Arizona group. I will definitely be joining. A get together would be great to have. I attended one with the Arizona Moms group in Nov. and have a wonderful time meeting and getting to know personally some of the other moms.
Billy is my only child and I do like to brag on him, so I will be joining the Bravo Zulu group as well. He is in Great Lakes right now attending school for IC. He recently received an award called the "Best of the Best" and a letter of Commendation to go with it. I am so very proud of his efforts to be the best that he can be. He was also a section leader in boot camp.
Thank you again for your comments.
Paige
I took your advice and started a new group. I haven't heard of any other IC's yet, so I'll probably be the only member of the group for awhile. I'm sure someone will join eventually.
Thank you for the kind welcome. Conrad is in a getting acclimated back week and starts week 4 of Rescue Swimmer School next week. If all goes well he will graduate on 23 January and then go across the base for AWR or AWS school. It has been nice having him only 4 hours away in Pensacola but that will change soon. Thanks again.
Hey Paul,
Andrew is get acclimated to his new base! He is having a tough time with the weather though. The 77-degree days and the 68-degree nights are tough. I think he be able to get used to the Marine Base Hawaii.
His squadron is deployed to the Middle East. He believes that he will be sent to join them in the next weeks.
In the mean time he is doing the check in stuff and he tells me he has a lot of quals to do. He is assigned to a combined maintenance group for now. He was put to work yesterday and actually got to help fix something!
Whets up with your 2 this week?
I just saw that the Stennis went out. Is that Kat's flattop?
Andrew worked 13 hours last Saturday and the maintenance group he is assigned to is "all hands" again this coming Saturday. Too busy to even think about tours and getting to see much of Hawaii. He and his room mate have been to the beach on base.
Paul,
That is a very nice picture of Kat. How nice the sailors are able to get their portraits done like that. I have so much to look forward too and I am excited for what adventures await Billy.
Yes, I am extremely proud of that legacy! I sent Billy's dad an invite to join Navy Dads, so I'm hoping he will do that and be a part of a wonderful and supportive group of parents.
Thank you very much I plan on checking out the infromation you have here. I think this is a great idea. So many young people are joining the milatary now. Many of themare leaving their loved ones for the first time. I was in the Navy 26 years ago so I have an idea of what to expect. Things have changed so much since then it's nice to find this from to get information on what is different and what he's going through now. Greg is in reciving this week and starts basic Monday the 19th.
Thank you I watched those the first day I found this site. They're Great. Just waiting at this point. I know he's busy and learning to be a sailor. I'm very proud of him.
Hello Paul! So you saw my little gripe session. Grrr, working's over rated! The things I learn on here about you guys. It's great. We study an Okinawan style called Won Hop Loong Chuan. Most of the group trains in Houston. Others are in California and back east. Our instructor is the Grand Master. He really is very good. I have my black belt...name only! My husband has his as well and our 16 yr old has picked it up. We do a lot of forms, exercises, he's starting to take us into deeper techniques...different timing, different breathing. A lot for me to catch up on. We entered a few tournaments years ago, but the style we do is so unique, we never did very well. The judges didn't know how to score us. I did get either a 3rd or 2nd place trophy....got mad in the middle of my kata and showed a lot more power at the end! Martin can watch it and tell you exactly where my anger kicked in. I'm sure there's a lot of schools there that would be happy to work with you. Look up a few in the phone book! I hope you got some beauty sleep, it's 2:30 here and I'm ready for a nap! How's Kat doing? Would love to hear from you again. Ummm tell that NavyDads Admin he's not paying you enough bucks to keep you from visiting us on our pages!
Yes, now that would have been a cool picture for the site. Out of all our children do you think one of them would have catpured it? Nope! Evan is meeting up with Paul tommorow I think. He hasn't been able to get in touch with Kat yet. Let's hope they at least get to meet each other before they scatter.
I feel like I am in the thick of it! Andrew took his phone with him so I have heard from him when his plane lands.
I have already written him a letter lol. This experance will be good for him I will miss him but I know this is what he needs to be doing.
Thank you for the info i will get involved with that group. Hows your sailors doing? Samantha is still waiting for her security clearance so she can class up. Time and advice has given her a much better attitude toward her military life. I am very excited for her to start school so she can really show what she is all about and has to offer the Navy.
Ahoy Paul...know what you mean about trying to catch up here, a lot of activity and I try to keep in touch with my homeys as much as possible. In order...Conner surviving orientation in Bangor...should rank up in March. Says the only thing holding him back was a few MA's not studying enough...thus more PT in full gear. He is well and doing fine, will go on the wire 03Feb. Meagan has been on hold. This has been the shoe that dropped. Upon further med eval's for AC school they found out she had been hospitalzed in pysch ward a few years back (thanks to a**hole past boyfriend who if I ever run into will have to deal with a most unfortuante situation). I was not aware of this as her mom kept info from me. Meg's spirits are good, she realizes her Navy days could be over soon. That being said, Meg's hubby (her rock) Jeremy is checking into off base housing at Norfolk to get her there asap afterwards. He's working on 4 NEC's (I have no idea what they are, can't remember the acronyms) and will go to San Diego for additional training in Feb. All for now.
Paul, thank you for your comments. I plan to be more active once I learn more about this site. Nicholas is in his 2nd actual week of training by week 8, I should be a posting wiz.
Thanks for your comment on SEAL Dads. It is appreciated by me and I think all the Dads would agree. I would like to Congradulate all Dad on this site for what there Sons and Daughters are doing. The Navy is a Team and each and every rate is important to the success of The Navy.
Thank you much for your comment on time spent between recruit training to A school. Especially liked the part about the mop. Will pass that on to my son in the next letter. Thanks again.
Paul,
I noticed the label - it's real nice. That would be good for getting the word out about NavyDads. I need to see if I can come up with something also. My computer experience and knowledge is somewhat limited. Most of what I've learned has been during the last 3 yrs. I took a class at Yavapai college in Microsoft office, but other than that, I am self-taught. I'll take whatever advice I can get.
Thanks Paul. These are uncharted waters for me ...my first to leave home. Eventhough I've deployed more than once and left my children behind, this is the first time I've been left behind. It feels good to hear others talk in a reassuring manner. Thanks again for taking the time to respond.
