What Were Your Feelings When Your Sailor Joined The Navy:
Hi paul, thanks for the info. The way i went with it was to just add it to my page in the comments about myself since when i am in here i always have that page open to listen to my tunes,so all i do is go to the quote and copy and paste.May be the long way, but it seems to be working o.k for me! Thanks for the idea though, all help is appreciated.

Paul it is lovely here. Their are 100 mph winds headed are way. Unreal! I started with 16 trees in my backyard and between Katrina and the last big storm I have about 6 left. I'll probably have 2 in the morning. Also I have a feeling my computer might crap out on me tonight. I hope not because it looks like it will be a long night for me staying up watching the weather. I don't think it will pass us until 2 a.m.. Wish me luck!
Like you I have more than one member of my family in service. John 2 brother served and are serving the oldes is army he is in the middle east, the next in line is a former member of the army reserve serve in the 1st action to free Kwait. Johnis currently at JTF GITMO
and thank you son anf daughter for picing up the tourch of freddom
Thank you for welcoming me, my wife found the navyformoms site, so I did a search and found this here. I think it is great so far & I look forward to interacting with the other dads here. Ashley is going to MEPS this weekend, thats all we know for now, but she is excited. My dad was a sailor & airman, I never got the chance due to hearing difficulties when I was 18. I am proud of her & support her decision 120%.
Again - Thanks for being here....
Thanks for the warm welcome! I am proud to be the mom of one son in the Navy, one in the Air Force and married to an Air Force Veteran and Co-Administrator of NavyDads. I hope someday to meet you and our son, Paul, to meet your daughter, Kat - who both serve on the USS Abraham Lincoln CVN 72 : ) Thanks for all you do on this wonderful site!
Yes, I received the files. I have been meaning to get back with you for direction. I have been busy running this week and fully intend to print some up, but I don't want to make any mistakes. Any pointers. Gary F.
Thanks for the welcome. My son Peter just started at Supply School after doing Oharp (?sp) here in Phx for 6 months. He's glad to finally be doing something. He likes Athens so far. Prior to OCS he graduated from ASU with a degree in Economics.
Thank you for the warm welcome; my apogies for the delayed acknowledgement. My wife and I of course already miss our son, but are genuinely excited for Nate and his future in the Navy.
FYI, he has entered as "RP" initially toward that as a Chaplain's aid, but given his affinity with weapons, who knows. We know that he will be given all the opportunity in the world to pursue his dreams, with God's grace.
Thanks Admin. We are watching the news almost constantly. I have email alerts when the Bainbridge is mentioned. We, too are proud of him. My wife say that Christmas will never be the same with his sea stories and mine. We are praying for Capt. Phillips and the sailors there. All of our military are in our prayers, but, especially sailors. lol
My reference of a rating title placed after a members name is this. When I log on, If I go to the top of the page and cross over to members and click, all members names appear. This is where a quick reference of a members sailors rate would help a member find others with sailors in there child career path. It would save going through each members name to find out what there sailor is training or trained for. Might spur more interaction between members.
Paul, I'm not sure what day you're leaving for your Tiger Cruise, but I know it is really soon. Have a great time on the high seas and enjoy your visit with Eric!! I look forward to seeing your pictures when you get back.
I posted a message on the Care Package group indicating I would make a large batch of jerky to donate to the Bainbridge sailors. Will we be collecting everything in one location before mailing it out to the ship? Or, are we going to be getting an address in which to send our packages to? Because it takes time to get the jerky made, I won't be able to get it done until this coming weekend.
Thanks Paul for the welcome. Michael is my oldest grandson. He just finished boot camp and should now be on his way to Pensicola, Florida for further training. Hopefully, I'll have an address soon.
Hey Paul, just wanted to say thanks for the file you e-mailed me.Had my son-in-law, Kris change the format and i am gonna take the easy way out and have 1000 cards printed out for only 20 bucks. I am gonna spread the word! Kris is also working on a wallpaper of the NavyDads logo for the computer.
Have a good day!

Hi Paul. Yes,i have checked the pics out a couple of times.I am envious! lol... I will never get to do that, but i love the ocean.I spend as much time as the bank account will allow. My moms family being of Norwegian decent, the water is pretty much in the blood.
Now when i hear of someone around here joining the Navy i am gonna proudly hand them a card and let them know to check it out.Well worth the time.Once Kris is done with the wallpaper i am gonna send it to James and have him put it on his laptop. We will get the word out.The least we parents can do for what you E.G.and Terry have done for the rest of us parents. Thanks again...
Have a great eve and we'll talk later!

Thank you for the welcome. So your daughter is on the same ship as your fellow administrator. You must be proud of her and your son also. I would soooo much like to see my daughter enlist like my son did, but don't think it'll ever happen. Not unless they have cosmopology as a Navy job! But who knows? Hopefully she will see how well her brother is doing and want to do something worth while with her life besides working in a beauty salon.
Hey Paul, how's everything? I too have been out of it. I got a little wet from a rain in Chicago and I got a cold which has lasted for about 10 days now. My Mother in Law thinks it's the Swine Flu. My boy is currently in A School in Great Lakes even though he hasn't actually started school yet. We talk a lot with him on the phone since he has a cell phone and I get the feeling that he is starting to settle in now. Paul, the graduation was great, we were so proud of him as you can see from my pictures.
Before I forget, I wanted to thank you for all your support and more importantly your friendship. I am so blessed to be part of this great Navy family. It all begins now, the roller coaster ride. I am taking my daughter to see Wolverine so I'll write again so. Again, thank you and God Bless.
Thanks for the comments on the video. What a job of putting it all together, first time and all, but it was well worth it.
Great cruise and of course great friends made I hope we can all get together again.. I'll be seeing Fred over here in a couple of weeks, so next it's your turn.

Hey Paul,i went and had 1000 Navydads business cards printed up and by my oldest daughters standards they were not perfect. On the back there was one little smudge that i couldn't even see,but had to have it pointed out to me.Well she called the company and filed a complaint and they are going to send me a new batch,so i will have 2000 cards and i was wondering if you or somebody you know would be interested in some of them? The first batch is about 100 light as of right now.Or if you like i will send you some of the second batch, either way 2000 cards is more than i had planned on.

Hey Paul, yes i thought about talking to E.G about it also. I was going to send him an e-mail here in just a bit.I have been putting them on bulletin boards where ever i find them, plus i gave a few of them to my nephews wife, seeing as how they run with a lot of the younger kids in that age bracket that may be considering the military.Either way 2000 is way more than i was expecting!

Great site. There are alot of answers here for all my questions that I may have. It has been rough for us since Christina left on April 28th to Great Lakes. This site and Navy for Moms has made things a little easier for us. Thanks
Thank you for the advice and kind words. I am sure we will have many questions as this process moves forward. He will be an LS or logistics specialist and ships out Oct. 29th. Thanks again.
Hey Paul..she's good and settling into life @x NAS. Still undecided on school but seems to be going in good direction. Being w/ Jeremy has grounded her so that's good. Conner home this week on leave and thats good too. We went to the range this am where we tied...1 old man vs sailor with full arm cast so I'm feeling pretty good!
Paul, Thank you for the response. Nick is a MM(N) and has been at Goose Creek since July. He finished A school in Oct- that's him and Mom at Graduation- and will finish Power School the first week of June. He's a bit older than most of his Shipmates having recieved his BS from the Univ of Wisconsin in 2008 (East Asian Studies/Computer Science). He hopes to serve on the George Washington in Yokoshura as he is reasonably fluent in Japanese having lived in Tokyo in 2006.
Thanks Paul, this site is great. I have gotten quite a few answers just reading the blogs. I will definitely use it to stay up on what's happening with my son. I just want to say thanks to all the men and women serving our great country and thanks to their families for supporting them.
Thanks Paul for the welcome. Just discovered the website and enjoying it already. Yeah I'm like any normal parent, love to brag about my boys. I have 3. Two are in the service or going to be soon. My middle boy, Cpl Russ is a Marine. 3 years of a 4 year hitch and Russ has already been to Iraq twice and is headed for Afghanistan end of the month. Very proud of him. Oohrah. My youngest is Brandon who is headed for Navy bootcamp July 2nd. He is looking forward to this new adventure in his life. Well Paul agian thank you and thank your kids for there service in serving this great country of ours. And thank you for service.............AK3 Ken, 1976-80 Navy USS Ranger CV61
I was in the navy in 1983 at 23 yrs old. I was going for communacations and wanted to cross over into seal teams but before I could enroll I pulled my back and went to sickbay found out I had scoliosis. that meant no teams so I got a Medical Discharge. 2yrs later I broke my back at L-1. The rest is history. So I Wished Brandon better luck,Finish what I could not , and be the best Sailor He can be.

Paul,
best wishes to you on this fine morning! your most gracious and heart warming greeting is both appreciated and unforgettable. From what i have seen of your web site it is well done and informative for us dads. many times us dads are expected to keep a stiff upper lip during emotional times such as my daughter lauren's entry into the navy. well here it is with no mop-ups, i cried like a baby, there i said it. infact, i was proud of each and every tear that was shed that sunny morning, the first day of my daughters new life.
when she entered the dep program i suggested that she arrive at a type of game plan that would enhance her chances of success. being a career firefighter i know better not to leave anything to chance. although us mortal humans can't possibly prepare for all possibilities, the actual preparation for most scenarios develop a thought and action process that in actuality does prepare us for most of those little surprises that seem to rear their ugly head more sooner than later. we keyed on the three main ideas of mind, body and spirit. she studied the blue jacket manual, learned the general orders, the sailors creed, rank identification and the chain of command all by heart with in a couple of months. needless to say, she was insatiable in her quest for all things navy. in the aspect of physical conditioning we worked out "together" four days a week, stressing the physical conditioning presented in the dep program study guide. it was certainly difficult to get our butts to the gym during those cold winter mornings. just the simple act of loosening up and stretching is most beneficial even if thats all that is done. it paid off with her loosing forty pounds in eight months. in the spirit aspect, i stressed that selflessness is the key to every aspect of her spirit. with many young folk, the idea of putting others feelings and needs foremost before their own is in a way foreign to them. schools these days stress competition above all else, which soon leaves the marginal students in the dust and to their own devices. the weakest link in the chain is trite but so very true when team work is the order of the day.
i have been long-winded here but all these ideas came to fruition with lauren entering boot with an e-2 rating. she came home with her beaming face to tell me of her very first promotion in the navy. such a father-daughter daughter connection such as in that instant in time can and never will be matched in happiness for us both. by the way, i cried together with her..........mike
Paul. I wanted to thank you for the gracious welcome you gave me. I feel very honored to be here. This is a very nice website. I have already posted one discussion, joined 3 groups ( NAvy moms, Knit for the Navy- which I also belong to over at N4M's and Proud Parents of Seabees) Not bad for only being here for an hour or so. Not to mention adding a few comments here or there. this is really great, and you are doing a great job.
Thanks Paul for the welcome. Brad is a seasoned sailor. He has been in for almost 12 years now. He is on land based aircraft/P-3s. Any questions, I will be glad to help!
Paul, Thank you for the welcome. I am looking forward to the many resources of this site. My Son Paul is also statioined on the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN72). Upon return from their 7 month cruise in October, I was able to meet him in Hawaii and be on the Tiger Cruise back to San Diego. Paul's younger sister by 1 year is now also considering signing up for the Navy. It will be an honor to have them both in the Navy. I will be returning to your site often and if I can be of any help or support, with questions or comments, for Sailors and their Families, it would be an honor to provide that.
It's a coincedence that you mentioned the Abe Lincoln. I worked as a civilian at Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Conversion and Repair, San Francisco, CA from 1992 to 1995 when the Abe Lincolon was homeported ad Naval Air Station, Alameda, CA. My job was assisting in developing repair anc conversion specifications for the carrier. I have to be honest in saying that it was one of the most interesting and rewarding jobs that I ever had.

Thanks, Paul for the welcome aboard. My son is on the Iwo Jima LHD7 in Norfolk and got back from his first deployment at the end of March. It is so different than when I was in as we had much more communication with him, sometimes on a daily basis. That made the time go by so much faster. And his ship has a great ombudsman group, keeping us advised all along the way. This is a great site and may very well become addicting!
Thanks for the welcome Paul. More over, thanks your daughter and son for their service. please let them know there are people who appreciate their service!
