What Were Your Feelings When Your Sailor Joined The Navy:
Hi Paul. Thanks for the very warm welcome. I am delighted to be part of this group. Please pass my very best regards to Eric and Kat. My son Josh's previous ship was the Roosevelt and he really enjoyed that tour. I returned yesterday from the CVN-69 Tiger Cruise as a guest of HS-5, the famous "Night Dippers". What a wonderful experience! I hope to post some pix soon.
Thanks for the welcome. Thanks for all of your work to administer this site. I have already spent a great deal of time on it and am sure I will be referring to it more in the future. BC POR 8/13/10 then A school. Don

Luis-Navy Dad and FREAKING PROUD!
Thanks Paul for making me feel so welcome. It is so important for me to share your stories and commit to helping out. If it's alright I'd like to feature this site on everettwablog. It's very inspiring and the video is awesome but I won't touch without permission. We received 10,000 hits for the month of July and would like to share with you. Thank you again for all that you do for others.
Thanks for the warm welcome. My son just graduated boot camp and is waiting orders to go to Pensacola. Can't wait to find out what his station will be once he finishes A school.
Paul, thanks for the warm welcome and encouraging words. We're quite excited and proud of our son, as you are of your children. It's a thrill to have a Sailor in the family...and to join a NEW family - the U.S. Navy.
I will certainly heed your suggestions and look forward to my experience as a member of this community and as a Navy Dad! Go Navy!! God Bless America.
HOOYAH!
Thank you for the warm words of welcome. This forum is very informative and I am quite glad to have found it. My boyfriend is currently in A school in Great Lakes. Knowing that there are others who can provide information when I am absolutely clueless certainly makes this journey a whole lot easier. Once again, thank you!! :D
Hey Paul, thanks for the message and catching up with me. Glad to know you are doing well. You're being very busy is of no surpize to me. As always, thank you for everything you do to help make NavyDads a great success. I added to your growth by starting a new group today.
Billy is doing super and is consumed with all that he's involved in right now. I have a trip planned to see him over the Labor Day weekend. I'm taking a couple of extra days off from work and spending a few days in San Diego. I haven't seen him since last Dec., so it's a long awaited visit for me. He completed VBSS school recently and is about a week into SARS school. He's alittle down at the monent because he's struggling with meeting the training requirements. He has some issues with some of the underwater excercises they are required to perform. Except for Billy, all of the others in the training group are sailors who had previously participated in Buds for Seals training. So, they have experience and more conditioning in those areas. But, Billy is motivated and determined to do his best and fight thru it with hopes that the end result will be his successful completion of the course.
I'm doing well. The new job is coming up on a year soon, so I won't be able to call it new much longer. As a little extra bonus, my employers are paying for my airfare to S.D. Billy has an apartment now, so there will be no hotel expenses for me either. We'll take all that money I'm saving and have a good time with it.
How's Kat enjoying civilian life? How's Eric? I think I read that his ship was headed for deployment.
Thanks again for touching bases with me... it's always appreciated!

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the input. Patrick told us on his form letter that his world has gone insane and he is loving it. :-) The site is tops. Thank you and the other sysops for maintaining it. Roy
I was wondering where I saw the video. When you are out and about I am looking for so RAM and ROM memory for my brain. If you see any let me know mine is got bad sectors in it.
Thanks Paul, for the welcome as well as the time you put into this website,,,My wife and I greatly appreciate it,,,it helps us try and understand what he is going through,,and knowing that there are others out there that can help us through this journey,,,Go Navy!!!!
Hi Paul.
Thank you for welcoming me to the site, however, I'm not a part of the Navy. It's my wife that's in. I'm the awesome supportive husband. I appreciate, again, the welcome message, but my intentions on the site are ask questions as far as what to expect as a Navy husband.
I hope to hear from you soon.
Paul , thanks for the welcome and info, PIR is next week ,haven't had to much info from my son as yet, a few letters , I'm very proud of my son and I do believe he has made the right choice. Your site has been very helpful, and as I learn more I hope I can help others .
Thank you for the welcome, Paul. I have already learned more than I expected from others who have "gone before" us. Our son is in basic training right now. We will join him for his PIR next month.
I also appreciate the pointer to OPSEC. All of us on this website have loved ones who will, at some point, be sent into harms way in defense of America. I hope no one here forgets that we now all play a role in getting them home safely. Thank you.
Thank you for your warm welcome. My son is currently in Navy OCS and will be heading into Aviation in Pensacola (assuming he passes his RLP). I am completely unfamiliar with Navy lingo (my wife and I are both doctors) and I particularly do not know the meaning of all the abbreviations and ranks. I have a lot to learn, but look forward to the ride ahead.
Hey Paul,
She's doing well, getting all qual'd up and just "Jobbin' it". She says it's crazy busy when they're flying and then they spend their down time catching up on sleep. She called from the ship about a week ago and seemed to be in good spirits although maybe a little homesick. She's looking forward to her first liberty in Malaysia so she can do a little exploring. Oh to be 20 again ;D
Thanks for asking, take care,
Kirk
Thanks for the advice, i'm so happy upon receiving a call from my sailor 11 hours after arriving. I'm felt a little concern though when he told me that he haven't had a chance to rest yet as he's on air for 24 hours to get there. I'm afraid his body may shutdown and crash. His voice sounds good though so maybe it's just a father thing. BTW, how di I find out his Ship#/Div# and mailing. So eager to start writing to him.
Oct 9 12:07pm (GU time) Oct 8 9:07pm (Chicago, Central time). He'll fell jet lag for sure buy he's now a sailor so I agree Roth you - he'll be fine - thank you. Is PIR date comes with his Ship#/Div#?
Eight weeks. This means myvsailor PIR is either 1st or 2ndcweek of December. Checked the site you provided and nor Dec PIR listed yet. BTW, after PIR; how much free time sailors have before going to their next assignment? My sailor is going to NNPTC in Goose Creek, SC.
Hi Paul! I first tried posting the javascript inline- no joy. I then tried to source the javascript from an external site. In both cases, the script tag was stripped from the post.., so I figured it wasn't allowed. Think I should try it again? I just don't want you guys thinking I'm trying to push malicious code. It's just a simple countdown timer. I'll be happy to pack it up and send a copy to you if you want to look at it.
Hi Paul, Thanks so much for your warm welcome. I think we parents all have a most important thing in common. We all have love ones serving our country and we are so proud of them. Thanks also for your advice on postings. I am always very careful about what I post. Mostly, I ask questions taking advantage of more knowledgable other parents.
Regards, Terry
I love your page Paul! Full of pride! I'm in love with Navydads.com It's a great way to share our love for our sons and daughters. Also to learn about the Navy and its way of life! HOOYAH!
I'm sure with the help from everyone here we will be able to successfully get through to PIR.
My son (JOE) is leaving for boot camp Nov. 1st. His mother and I are very proud, excited, and nervous. We are looking forward to meeting some on the new moms and dads
Thanks for the welcome, I got out after 14 years as a EWC, nephew made FTC in 09/10. Now my son, I am proud of him and appreciate what he will give up to make it. I also know he will meet life long friends and have some of the best times of his life.
thank you for the welcome.ill catch on and join in as i learn how to. i have 2 sailors all ready and one more on the way.navydads will be a great help.
Thank you for this web site it has already been helpful for us to get ready for Jacob' s graduation from boot camp Dec 22 2010. I dont know much about what he is doing I have only recieved one phone call from him and it was for just 3 min. He is at Great Lakes in ship 12 division 030.
Hello all,
Thank you for the welcome messages. I am actually here with a serious issue that has just recently come up and I need advice. My daughter Rachel graduated Bootcamp in late September. As a parent, I've never been prouder. To see her in her white uniform was just awesome! She looked amazing. She had put on some weight, but all muscle.
Since her graduation, she had been in limbo until just about 2 weeks ago when she finally started A school. She is still in Great Lakes and is supposed to stay there until at least May of 2011.
So I'll cut to the chase here. Rachel informed us about a week or so ago thata she wants to quit the Navy; she wants out. She says she doesn't like it, doesn't like the school, doesn't like the job she chose! As a parent, I'm devastated. From what I understand and have read, the Navy has a 6 month period, the first 6 months, that will allow a Sailor to leave if they request it. They have to have served at least 28 days with pay I believe, before they can make this request.
This isn't like my daughter, she isn't a quitter, so I'm just very confused and don't know what to do or where to turn. She has had some counseling with a chaplain, and it sounds like he is also trying to convince her to stay but she is insisting she wants out. I am so upset about this it's all I can think about. I am going back to Chicago next week for Thanksgiving to be with her and am hoping we can get to the bottom of what is really going on. I'm wondering IF they will let her seperate from the Navy, what the process is, is she dishonorably discharged??? This is unbelieveable , I can't believe this is even happening. Please , if you have any advice, insight, prayer, I will appreciate it. Thank you so much.
Thomas
Paul, Thank you for the welcome. My son James is the light of my life, an Eagle Scout mature for his age (about to turn 19) and a young man who has always been clear about what he wants out of life. The SWCC "A" school scares me though, it sounds pretty tough and I hope he can hang in there. His PIR date is 1/7/11 and we have gotten his box and form letter so far. Mom and I are hearing that NSW candidates have a tougher boot camp experience and likely won't get as many phone calls home as the other divisions will. I have not seen anything in the groups on Ship 04 Division 802...I may need to start my own group.
Sorry it took so long to commet back to you. I can't tell you how much I've already learned about my son's training. It helps knowing what phase he may be in when I write the letters to him. I really appreciate your welcome and look forward to keeping up with my son's adventure over the next four years (hopefully more.)
Thanks for your reply I feel like part of the group already. I feel close with your son as I am a Plank owner on the USS Theodore Roosevelt CVN-71. Fair winds and following seas.
Thanks Paul, anything for the men and women in service. We are actively running fund raisers on our site for The Wounded Warrior Project. Our last fundraiser netted 240 bucks for the warriors. We have another one coming up tomorrow to help the families of our servicemen and woman pay for their travel to visit their warriors laid up in hospitals. Our troops and sailors don't get enough attention.
I forgot to tell you, your link is up and live at The American Woodworker on the home page at the right side, scroll down and it's under useful links, there it will stay for the duration of our sites existence. I also fired up a discussion regarding this wonderful site, Navy Dad's Discussion. My guys on my site are a bunch of retired servicemen, they probably have sons and daughters in the Navy as well, so this site you have will be a great resource for them, thanks again for all you do over here.
Paul, that was very generous of you with the badge, I wasn't expecting anything in return, this is a very pleasant surprise. I will reciprocate and badge you on our site, once I get her up, I'll give ya a holler. If there is anything we can do as a community, if Navy Dads is involved in any fundraisers that we could help out with, give us a holler, we are a small community, but we are generous. Merry Christmas Season and our best to you and yours sir.
