My wife has been using navymoms.com, so I thought I'd look for a navydads site.

Info: my son & me

Son: PIR on 1/14/11, going to EM A school, in the nuclear power pipeline and plans to volunteer for subs.

Me: I served 71-77, EM1(SS), nuclear, sub qualified.  Served on the USS Permit SSN 594.  That was the sister ship of the Thresher.  It appeared in some shots in Hunt for Red October and was decommissioned & cut up in the early 90's.

I don't know too many 2nd generation Navy Nukes, I think most of us tend to steer our offspring away from the program, focusing on the negatives vice the positives of the program.  It's tough, not much immediate reward, but there aren't too many programs that require as much of a young man or woman and prep them for tremendous success after they leave the Navy.  I was more than willing to recommend it to my son, and he's doing very well.  Sure, there are some rough patches, but he has always been one to keep his eyes on the prize.

Welcome to NavyDads.com Bill! I'm sure you'll find NavyDads.com as useful, educational and informative as I have. Please explore the site and make some new Navy friends. Be sure to read the discussions add your comments or start a new discussion. Browse through the postings in the various groups or start a new one. I certainly have! If you have any comments, questions or concerns about your sailor and what he is going through...be sure to post them! In my experience someone here can answer your questions or concerns or can point you in the right direction to find out. I'm blessed to have two sailors in the family - my son Eric (AM3) is stationed on the carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) and my daughter Kat (MC3) recently completed her five-year enlistment on the carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). And Bill this is a great place to brag about your sailor as well! So join in, get active, and be sure to let us know how Billy is doing! Please remember that we talk about the Navy here and we must keep the security and safety of our sailors and the fleet in mind at all times. On the right or starboard side of every NavyDads.com page is an area we call About This Site. Please take a minute and read through the Operations Security (OPSEC) link for some guidelines as to what we should and should not talk about in a public forum like NavyDads.com. And stop by the NavyDads offical store- Navyoutfitters.com! Show your support for NavyDads.com by wearing the latest in NavyDads attire. Best Regards- Paul
