Congrats to Today's PIR Members

Posted on October 29, 2010 at 3:30pm 0 Comments

Congratulations to all those SAILORS who PIRed today and to the proud family members who were fortunate to attend and to those who were keeping the "home fires burning" while supporting their son/daughter/brother/sister/nephew/niece/grandson/granddaughter etc..(you get the idea). They made it through the hard work and the support of their RDCs, instructors, their new family (division members) and most importantly their families. God Speed!

We got a call from him last weekend. He sounded tired , but I could tell by the sound of his voice , he was enjoying what he was doing.
Have you looked at staying at the : Navy Lodge at Great Lakes ? Way cheaper that hotels , and it real close to the base. Just a thought. We plan on attending the meet and greet ant the Ramada Inn , Thursday Dec. 2nd.

Fred,
We finally received our first real letter from our son. It sounds like he's doing good and liking what he's doing. Just really looking forward to attending his PIR and seeing him in his uniform.

HI FRED, WE GOT AN OFFICIAL LETTER 2 WEEKS AGO AND HIS BEST FRIEND GOT A LETTER LAST WEEK, BUT STILL NO CALL. I HAD A ROUGH TME YESTERDAY (PROBABLY BECAUSE I WAS EXPECTING ANOTHER LETTER) LAST WEEK, BUT WITH THE SUPPORT FROM THIS SITE AND OUR BIBLE STUDY GROUP LAST NIGHT I'M DOING BETTER TODAY. I'M SO PROUD OF ALL OUR SERVICE MEN & WOMEN AND WITH OUR PRAYERS I'M SURE THEY'LL DO FINE (PROBABLY BETTER THEN US PARENTS). CAN'T WAIT FOR PIR, MAYBE WE CAN PUT A FACE WITH SOME OF THE NAMES. GLAD TO HAVE YOU ABOARD. GODSPEED AND HOORAH! GO NAVY!

It's a pleasure to 'meet ' you Fred, nice to chat with someone who is experiencing the same thing. Although they say no news is good news , Will's Mom & I can't wait to get a real letter from him, all we got was that note at the bottom of the form letter but he did say the food was actually " pretty good" which put my wifes mind at ease a bit as she was worried about her son's picky eating.
Having gone through RTC Great Lakes myself in 1975 I was able to give him a little insight as to what to expect but things there are so much different there now. I hope somehow we can get to meet in person at the PIR, look for the guy with the USS JUNEAU LPD 10 ballcap. Keep in touch, Pete Quirk

Thanks Fred-it is a tough time-I have painted the kitchen, worked double shifts, played guitar-anything to pass the time! Everyday I check the mailbox waiting for some word- I'm sure he's doing good, he was very prepared. I live less then a mile from McGuire AFB, by the way-hope Marc is adjusting well!

Welcome to NavyDads.com Fred! I'm sure you'll find NavyDads as useful, educational and informative as I have. Please explore the site and make some new friends. Read the discussions and add your comments. Browse through the postings in the various groups or start a new one. I certainly have! If you have any comments, questions or concerns about your sailor and what he is going through...be sure to post them! In my experience someone here can answer your questions or concerns or can point you in the direction to find out. I'm blessed to have two sailors in the family - my son Eric (AM3) is stationed on the carrier Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) and my daughter Kat (MC3) just completed her enlistment on the carrier Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). And Fred this is a great place to brag as well! So join in, get active, and be sure to let us know how Marc is doing! Please remember that we talk about the Navy here and we must keep the security and safety of our sailors and the fleet in mind. On the right or starboard side of every NavyDads page is an area we call About This Site. Please take a minute and read through the Operations Security (OPSEC) link for some guidelines as to what we should and should not talk about in a public forum.

As a parent of a sailor currently or soon to be at Great Lakes you'll have many questions about what your son is going through. In the Navy Bootcamp group is a discussion called A MUST READ for all New Navy Parents. Read through this post as it will do a lot to give you some understanding about what your sailor is learning and why. And be sure to check out the videos available in the Bootcamp Group as well.

As PIR draws closer, be sure to spend some time going through the PIR-Tips, Hints and Helps group- we’ve tried to assemble some tips and suggestions to make your sailor's PIR more enjoyable. Best Regards- Paul
