What Were Your Feelings When Your Sailor Joined The Navy:
I am very proud of my daughter Kelly who recently graduated from Arizona State University and is now preparing for entering the Navy in March 2009 in avionics weapons systems. She is following in her grand-father's shoes through her enlistment in the Navy. My father served aboard U.S.S. William Ward Burrows Attack Transport in the Pacific Theater from 1942 through 1946. Go Navy.

Tom we have alot in common with our girls. My daughter followed in her Grandpa's footsteps also. My Dad served in WWII on a PT boat as a machinist head gunner. Sami my daughter enlisted however right out of High School. In my opinion I wanted her to wait but she wanted to get her life started so I supported her 100%. At first especially while they are in Boot Camp it is very tough but when you see them graduated its all worth it! Sami is now in A school to become a Cryptologist(CTT), which is all high security so we do not get to hear much about it other than its an experience she will never forget. Keep in touch and let me know if i can help out in any way. GO NAVY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tom I'm glad you found us. I'm still new to this. Learning as I go. My son has been in about 7 months. He is stationed in San Diego on the USS Ronald Reagan which is currently on their cruise. So I'm a little ahead of you. Please feel free to pick my brain if you want. I'm here to share my knowledge with anyone behind me. We have a great group of dads and moms on here. Ask a question and somebody on this site will have an answer. Kelly will do fine in boot camp. My son actually liked it. He said if they would have given him his cell phone he would have stayed. Just tell her to start running. They say that is the hardest thing to do is the timed run. It is in a non ventilated building. My son said it was killer. I'm curious to know how Kelly found out about this site. If you don't mind I'd love to hear. This site is still young but I'm hoping to add all the info we parents need to survive with our children in the Navy. ttyl

Tom- Be sure to throughly read the Bootcamp group posts to better understand what Kelly will be going through. If you don't see the answer to a question, be sure to ask. We also have a group started by a 9-year Navy recruiter- I'm sure you can get any answer there that we cannot help you with. Please explore the site- it's here to help you and your sailor. Best Regards- Paul Go Terps !!

Tom thanks for joining. I found navyformoms in searching for answers to my son's future. I just knew their had to be a site for dads like n4m's but I was wrong. So I started this site so us dads would also have a place to call home. I'm new at this and I hope this site will benefit fathers that come behind us. So jump right in share concerns, join groups, share info, and show off your sailor. I'm so glad to find out their are so many proud navy dads just like myself. Thank your daughter for her service for me and your fathers as well. Good luck and thanks again for joining. Sincerely, EG

Welcome to NavyDads Tom! I'm sure you'll find the site as fun and useful as I have. Explore and make some friends, add your comments to a discussion or two, read the postings in the various groups-- even start one or two. I have! If you have any questions or concerns about your sailor and what she is going through...ask! I'm sure someone here will have the answer or can point you in the right direction to find out. I'm lucky enough to have two sailors- my son Eric is a month into a seven-month deployment on the carrier Theodore Roosevelt and my daughter Kat just returned from her seven-month deployment on the carrier Abraham Lincoln. And Tom this is a great place to brag about your sailor as well! So join in and let us know how Keyy is doing!

Be sure to spend some time in the Bootcamp group- this can help answer many quesiton you might have about what Kelly is going through. As her PIR drws near, be sure to check out the PIR-tips and himts group for some pointers on making the experience that mch better. Lastly- check out the Daughtes and their Dads group- it's a place to talk about and brag about our girls!

And it's nice to see someone else from Arizona on the site! I live in Green Valley and have called the Tucson area home for about 8 years now. I lived in Wheaton while I was going to school at College Park.

Best Regards- Paul
