I grew up Air Force, dad was in 25 years. Married a Navy man who went enlisted to commissioned (NROTC University of Oklahoma). These days I'm a single mom to four children, my son is a DC on a frigate, my stepson is in the Marine Reserves. Needless to say, I've moved every few years all my life, and everything military and patriotic runs through my veins.

I just read your comment above about Drew being ill & having to be hooked up to an IV each night for dehydration. As an RN, I'm sorry I find that totally unacceptable. Obviously if he requires IV hydration every night there is something going on & he should be placed on SIQ (sp?). I'm starting to have real issues w/ military medical as my daughter has been having intermittent severe abdominal pain for months. Twice they told her she had a UTI but she was asymptomatic & then prescribed a very low dose antibiotic. I told her to go back to medical & ask that the medication be reviewed as it was a pediatric dose & an antibiotic that is not commonly used for a UTI. Last time they sent her for an xray of her abdomen when they should have ordered an ultrasound or a ct of the abdomen/pelvis. I hope Andrew will recieve proper medical care & he should start drinking gatorade or something similar. Frustrating when our kids are so far away:(

Welcome to NavyDads Istrebeck! I'm sure you'll find the site as fun and useful as I have. Explore and make some friends, add your comments to a discussion or two, read the postings in the various groups-- even start one or two. I have! If you have any questions or concerns about your sailor and what he is going through...ask! I'm sure someone here will have the answer or can point you in the right direction to find out. I'm lucky enough to have two sailors- my son Eric just returned from a seven-month cruise on the carrier Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) and my daughter Kat returned last fall from a seven-month cruise on the carrier Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). And Istrebeck this is a great place to brag about your sailor as well! So join in and let us know how Drew is doing! Best Regards- Paul

lstrebeck, Welcome Aboard!

I'm so glad to have the Navy Moms on here to keep us men in line. My son is an ABE aboard the USS Ronald Reagan in San Diego, Ca. and my family and I couldn't be prouder of him. When he first enlisted I found NavyForMoms in searching for answers to my son's future. I just knew their had to be a site for dads like n4m's but I was wrong. So I started this site so us dads would also have a place to call home. We have many moms on the site and benefit greatly from their point of views and we are willing to help the moms in any way we can. So jump right in share concerns, join groups, share info, and show off your sailor. I hope this site benefits you and your family throughout your sons journey in the Navy. Thank Drew for his service for me and thanks again for joining us.

Sincerely, EG
