Navy Dads

Hi
We received the form letter today stating our son's graduation would be December 11th.
Any tips? We are traveling from Memphis, Tennessee. Considering driving, thoughts on driving conditions that time of the year?

WE went to ur sons graduation which he didn,t graduate in the PIR. He did graduate 3 days later. We went by the shuttle route and we were glad we did. The traffic jams on the road to the PIR were horrendous. #lanes wide of traffic as far as the eye could see, no to mention the RAIN anf for us the cold. WE came from FLorida and the temp diff was about 30 degrees, did not want to sit in the traffic for who  knows how  long before we got to th base. By shuttle we were in the express lane so wego to the base maybe 1/2 hor at best. Definitely woth the shuttle. NO one mentioned to you that you have to reserve the shuttle and time when you apply for for Navy lodge reservations. we were not told this and were lucky to get on the 6:30 shuttle. Make sure oyu get THAT reservation for the shuttle from the hotel, other vnues would cost you more. The shuttle cost was apprx $60.00 for me and my wife . I beleive it was called Sarge shuttle. If you shuttle from the airport to the Navy Lodge it will run apprx $55.00+ and you have to stand at the out of downtown loc for the shuttle to the Lodge. Hope this helps. Good luck to your sailor, you must be proud as we all are of his service to country.

It seems our son gets letters within a week of us writing them. Just based on his letters back that seems to be the timing. As you may know, your SR can get letters everyday, however, can only mail out to you on Sunday. We look forward to Thursday each week as that is when his letters arrive, so they take 4 days to reach us. Stay well.

We are actually from the Cincinnati area and have only lived in Memphis for the last couple years, not concerned about the small amount of snow, just don't want to get snowed in for a few days. God will watch over us either; he always has.

Thanks y'all.
Dropped a number of letters and cards accumulated since he shipped out.
We each write him daily and hope he gets the mail regularly. We heard it can take up to five days after the center received it, is that factual?
It was good just to have an address to send these notes to.

TJ, my son's PIR is 11/6 and we cannot wait. Don't know much about the driving, however, have people write often, if you can. My son wrote may times stating that it is so uplifiting to hear your name called out to receive mail and the letters helped keep him strong. So proud of your son. May God bless him and your family.
