Navy Dads

After living in Navy housing or a submarine for the past two years, Paul got a house just outside of Pearl Harbor, HI!

He's sharing the house with two shipmates. This way, they actually make money with the housing allowance that they get.

So, now my "little boy" has a BMW Z3 and a house in Hawaii (when he's not under the water). Amazing....

Hawaii has got to be one the choice posts. Your son is fortunate to be there. The wife and I have traveled there many times, and she lived there the summer she was 16 with her brother who was stationed there at the time. Our son had the chance to get a sub based out of Hawaii after A school, but he chose Groton instead because he wanted to be in the Atlantic where he said "all the action is" right now! Go figure!! He also jumped at the chance to be on a Virginia class.

I just finished reading your narrative about the Tiger Cruise you went on in February of 2008! You are a lucky, lucky man. I've been on board the New Hampshire while it was tied up at the dock during commissioning, but to get a chance to actually go to sea on board a sub would be something that I could not pass up. If the opportunity ever comes my way, I hope I have the traveling money and the health to take advantage of it.

I do have one question about your cruise. I suffer from an inner ear disorder called Meniere's Disease which plays heck with my balance and my hearing. My son has described the pressure changes on his boat during manuvering and weapons firing as unbelievable. I'm worried that my ears would not play nicely with rapid pressure changes. Did you experience that on your cruise?

Hawaii is certainly nice. The only tough part is that it's a long and expensive trip back from those islands to Long Island.
