Navy Dads

This afternoon my son called and I missed his call by seconds. By the time I picked up, I was too late. I feel horrible! Today I'd say is one of the crappiest days of my life. I can't help but to blame myself.

He did get a hold of his mother and from what she tells me he's a bit emotional from being away from home cause he misses us all. Otherwise, he's doing fine in boot camp. That made me feel happy and sad all at once.

So for all you folks out there who are expecting a call from your SR, please don't miss the call!...

when you see those sailor marching in through that big roll-up door in the Drill Hall you will experience a series of emotions unlike any before.....soak it up!!  You will be pretty amazed at the transformation that the Navy has effected in 8 short weeks.........Remember that while on liberty there are a whole series of rules your sailor has to live by.....

You are right about time speeding up. I am shifting from longing to see Sailorette to excited. How ever it plays out I cant wait to see her. I dont see the light at the end of the tunnel yet, but it the tunnel is not near as dark.

Funny you mentioned that Paul cause planning and booking our GL PIR trip is what's on the top of my list right now and you're absolutely right about the mind shift. During the last phase of my son's DEP, I've watched a lot of the bootcamp videos posted here including 'Return to Bootcamp' and visited other Googled sites. At that time, it almost felt that I too was preparing for bootcamp LOL! As usual, Thank You for your support and helpful insights. Have a great weekend...

Hey Gary, from having two sailors go through this I can say from experience that the time goes by much faster than you think it will....your thoughts will now start to shift from "wonder what or how he is doing" to getting set and planning for your trip to GL and seeing your sailor!! Go to the Bootcamp group and watch the series Return to Bootcamp....these videos, if you haven't seen them, give a really good review of what RTC is like and what you sailor is doing....

Thanks Paul! Yeah I realized that he's basically halfway done with boot camp. We've just gotta tough it out for the remaining weeks...

it's a tough one Gary, but the RTC journey is almost over....PIR makes all the stress worthwhile.
