Mark ~ I knew about the SeaBee's, however, I was just unsure about the "apprentice" part of it all.. :)

Dan,
SeaBees are the Navy's construction battalion. They go to the foreign areas and build bases, air strips, etc. He will also be trained on use of a real weapon, because they are frequently in with or near the Marine's.

Hey Steve, I was Army Airborne - stationed in Vicenza, Italy for 4 years '87-91. left home when I was 18 ... it seemed so much easier then!!! Zach called me from Detroit real quick saying he was there and his flight info, then he borrowed someones cell phone real quick after he landed and said he made it, was safe, and ready to get it going... and in the box, he dropped a note - was in good spirits or so it sounded.... and then on the bottom of page 2 of the form letter he left us a little note saying how they were up for 50 hrs and was getting yelled at and stuff.. but it wasn't too bad.. and he has reminded me on every piece of mail we get to not forget his cell phone @ PIR. :) he is going through withdrawls though!

From talking to a sailor last night, each ship will hold several divisions - and each division is made up of about 80 soon to be sailors.. Zach is going in for Seabee ~ Construction.. what does that all mean? WHO KNOWS! LOL ! Roads? Schools? Barracks? not sure, nor does he.. but he is excited that when he gets out he can use the trades he learned :)

Dan, no I was not in the Navy. Mom, brother and I bought the tshirts and had a big party for the kid a few days before he shipped. We got the box Monday but still not the form letter. There is another dad posting for Ship4 but another div. Marty, I think. Were you in the Navy? Mine took his cell with him and was texting us all day from the airport while he waited. Then when he landed in Chicago. He called his mom for his last phone call from his cell too. He said he was the first one off the bus and the first one to get yelled at. LOL... I guess your guy is used to this cold. Jayme qualed for the Nuke program. What's yours looking forward to?

Mine is on Ship4 but I have not gotten the form letter yet telling us which division he's in. Jayme shipped Dec1 from Lewisville, Tx. Yours?
