Navy Dads

My son left for bootcamp yesterday. I was proud, but heartbroken to leave my son as he leaves for the military.

Hey Gregg I can not believe it i just got a call from my son he said they were given a 15 min call for being ready on time this morning I was worried when i seen 847 area code because everyone says no news is good news. He sounded really good and he said it has not been real bad except for all the yelling. He is assigned to the USS Hopper division255 just thought you might want to he this so maybe your son might get to call. Just to hear from him has helped alot

Oh yes, as soon as my son was able to tell me the grad date, I got my flights and reserved rooms on base at Navy Gateway Inn. I went through boot camp in San Diego 30 years ago. Have never been up to the Great Lakes bases or Chicago for that matter.

Grad day will be a double high for me. My son grad for 1, and I will enjoy my 30yr Navy anniversary. Pretty cool!

Jeff, have you made your travel plans yet? We just got back yesterday and it was definitely a learning experience as to what to expect!

I know that feeling all too well! I remember that day like it was yesterday! I cried for days as my 19 year old left home on a new adventure. I was so proud yet so missing him! On the bright side, We just got back from his PIR (graduation) yesterday and it was so good to see him again. Leaving him this time wasn't as hard because we got to see where he was staying, meet his new friends, etc. It was like setting him up in a college dorm. He told us his boot camp stories and how there were many days he wished he was home. Now that he's on the other end of it he is so glad he stuck it out and has no regrets! I am so proud of my son!!!

Hang in there Greg. My youngest son will graduate from boot camp next Friday, 29 Jun. Time has flown by so fast. Seems like it was last week he left!!! You'll do fine.
