Navy Dads

My son leaves for bootcamp on april 7,2015 and he is ready to shove off. His

mom & i are very proud of him. My question is, how soon does the bootcamp staff

know when his A school class will start? I have heard that some start late, some

sailors leave as early as 5:30am on saturday after PIR on friday. Go Navy

My sons flight did not leave to San Antonio until 7:30 Saturday night. Made for a long day at O'Hare.

One other thing, he left at 7:30 am the next day.  We got to the airport at 5 am to be with him for a bit before he left.  Worth every single second.

My Sailor was down in Pensacola for nearly 3 weeks before his A school started.  So depending on the schooling, it might be awhile before he starts.  Good luck to your Son in Boot Camp and his future!!  BZ!!!

It really depends on the A School. For instance, our sailor had A School at Great Lakes. They had about a week of "make work" between Boot Camp and A School. I believe the reason was they wait until a school has a set number of students before they begin that section. What rating is your sailor? That determines where the A School is located (Great Lakes or elsewhere.)

If his A-school is NOT in Great Lakes, odds are he will ship on Saturday and that could be virtually anytime Sat.  He might be stuck at the airport for hours- but when he checks in you should be able to get a security pass and be able to wait with him at the gate.  Mind you, that may be in the middle of the night.....
