Thank you all for your information and guidance! Our future sailor leaves for Rhode Island Saturday. I have ordered a candle, blanket and a pin from the store.
Tim. Thank you very much for the information on navigating the website. I started looking at the site about a month ago and was very impressed with all the info. It has become addicting since I have 2 months off during the summer. My time is much better spent here than on FB. Hope to communicate again soon, and thanks again.
Everyone here has been awesome. The saddest thing I've ever done is say Goodbye not knowing what tomorrow brings. I received his box of personal items and the form letter arrived Friday. Were now ready to send our first batch of letters and have a ton of questions about his training activities. I am a very prod father, and family.
Thanks for the welcome and all the tips on finding my way around this site. I must say everyone has been so welcoming. My daughter shipped 24 Jun to GLRTC. Got her "Kid in a Box" a few days later and just got her form letter yesterday. I'm blessed to have two children who are focused and motivated and doing well at their specific stations in life. I'm more than proud of both of them as I'm sure we all are of all our kids but I have to admit when I hear myself tell someone "My daughter is in the US Navy" it does make my chest swell just a little bit more than usual.
Thanks for the kind welcome Tim. Our son is in his second week at BC and we are still looking for his mailing address. It did not come with the Kid in a Box. Do we have to exercise more caution? Or is there another way of acquiring it?
My daughter is just about to reach her two year mark. July 16th. We can't believe it. She is on the Bush, IT2. She made E5 last September, very proud as this was pretty much in record time. She got a lot of flack from shipmates that didn't think it was necessary to study. But as a college graduate she has the study thing down pat. She has a love hate relationship with the Navy. Some days she hates it and thinks most of the enlisted are idiots LOL. Her superiors have given her the OCS packet-they insisted on it- and she works on it when she "loves" the Navy. She has more friends than she ever imagined. That part she "loves" every single day. And the funniest thing- she finally told me two days ago she picked IT because it was air conditioned. HA!
Thanks, Tim. I appreciate the kind words and advice. "Cody" is actually my grandson; I'm the son of a USNA grad/submariner from WWII. It's a long blue line....
Thank you so much Tim. So glad that I found the Navy Dad group to help this Navy mom along the way. I will truly take advantage of the resources NavyDads have to offer me. I have shared with my son Sean all the thank you from all of you for his service. I'm so happy to be a part of the NavyDads family. Go Navy!!! :)
Thank you Tim, I am a bit overwhelmed at this point. Got the box and letter today so now I am trying to figure out travel plans. One day at a time I guess.
Thanks so much, Tim. This has been a useful site so far. Our daughter reports tomorrow (4-27-14) for OCS in Newport. So excited for her and for the changes ahead.
Thanks for all the warm welcomes. My daughter Amanda is assigned to the Roosevelt CVN-71 as Avionics Tech at VFA-11. This month marks her 1 year anniversary, I could not be more proud of her. She starts her C School next month and then from what I understand they are going on a 13 month deployment because the CVN-71 is being reassigned to San Diego, and they are being relocated with it. I want to thank you all again for the warm welcome. Mark Kedrowski Retired Deputy Sheriff Bexar County San Antonio, TX

Thanks Tim, I appreciate all of the input and experiences. Both my wife and I are grateful for the support.
