Calvin, thank you for the encouragement and information. Our son is now in Class 12-12 at OCS. We have booked our flights and are working on renting a house for the days surrounding his graduation on June 15th. We understand that there will be a PIR on the 14th and a Meet and Greet the evening of the 14th. Do you have any info on those? I am a 1968 graduate of OCS and served several years which provide me with fond memories and some life long friends from the experience.
Thanks for the welcome! My son is just in...approximately 3 weeks...so haven't heard from him yet. Being a Veteran...I remember vividly what these young men are going through. For the other Dads out there...what you're going through and most of the thoughts you are having...are quite different from what your son is going through and most of the thoughts he is having. Send him mail...send him positive mail...it will make all the difference in the world. Beyond that...don't worry at all...he's in very good hands and will be back soon...
Thank you for the warm welcome sir. I did find this site very comforting. Just talking to other parents of a sailor is awsome to say the least. I have found some intersting things on the site, photos, videos and much more. Thank you for the upkeep on the site, is there a place to donate to the site(paypal)? Again thank you for the time you put into this site.
Thanks y'all for your helpful comments. This site has been amazingly helpful in understanding what my son is going through. He's been in bootcamp for 5 weeks now and we've received one letter and no follow-up phone call, so it's been really valuable to learn what he is going through from what others have posted. We now know he has a good reason for not contacting us.
Thanks so much everyone for the welcome! This is really an awesome place to get so much info. It makes feel a little closer to him when I see what he may be going through every day!
Thank you so much for making it easy on this website. My daughter left for boot camp about 3 weeks ago. She got a case of the swine flu early on. She is on separation ship 5. She does not know yet if she is sent home or not. Since swine flu is contegious sorry about the spelling, what is likely going to happen?
Thank-you so much for the warm welcome. My husband and I have found the site a wealth of information and support, and that was just reading the info before becoming a member. I salute your grandson for his service to his country . And, also for your support and dedication to not just your loved one. But, to those on the boards seeking help and guidance. Nice meeting you:)
Thanks for the welcome Calvin! I just went to the AC group and noticed no activity since 2008. What group would you recommend for basic information about A school and what they can bring? Thanks,
Thank you for the welcome. Places like this make the transition so much easier as we eagerly await hearing from our son. Thank you and to all that contribute to the U.S. military and their families!
Calvin...all I see on the "sent message" is a black box for the video.....did you have a playable Flash video or did you use the link to see it on Screencast's site.....

You folks have made a great place for people to get educated about their sailors life in the Navy.
I also loved the tribute videos, thank you again sir.

Thank you for the welcome Calvin! The site has been really helpful so far and I look forward to "meeting" others with family members in the Navy.
Thanks Calvin, I can't find the links to the must reads...and the links in the message didn't work.... But I'll keep looking around.
Calvin - thank you for the welcome. I believe you and I are located quite close to each other. I live in Keller. Small world, huh?
