Thanks Paul. The Navy has made this a great experience so far. The recruiter and the folks at MEPS have done a great job making us feel comfortable and relaxed with the process. It would be nice if the Navy would point the families to these types of sites to help families guide prospective recruits early in the process.
Thank you so much for sharing, I could relate to this father's post about their experiences. It is an absolutely beautiful experience.
Does anyone have any recommendations for hotels to stay for PIR?
Thank you Paul and Tom for the welcome. My daughter graduated from boot camp on 12/11 and is now in Pensacola. I'm hoping she can come in June to see her little sister graduate from high school.
Thank you for the welcome Paul!
This is a new experience for our family, I'm trying to learn as much as possible about what my son is experiencing in boot camp. I'm so nervous, anxious and my tears randomly flow.. I tend to over think and the worried momma comes out, this website has been so helpful, I appreciate reading everyone's awesome experience.
Thank you for sharing Kat and Eric's amazing adventure, I can understand why you are a very proud Dad. I hope that our adventure is as amazing as yours!
I don't think I have ever prayed so much, I'm counting down the days until I get his first phone call as we are just beginning our adventure.
Thank you again for the warm welcome, I would be lost without knowing everyone's awesome stories.
Sincerely,
Cyndi
Thank you so much for the welcome! My son, Eric, is packing as I write this; his flight leaves tomorrow--flying to Minneapolis, then to Detroit, Virginia, then Bahrain. I am enormously proud of him, but worried as all heck, too. I'll be praying everyday for his safety--such a dangerous part of the world. It's going to be so hard saying good-bye in the morning--he will be half a world away, and I'm not sure when he'll be back. One year? Two? I'm looking forward to the info and support from this site. Glad to "meet" everyone.

Hello Paul. Thanks for the gracious welcome and also for all of the work that you and the admins are doing here for all of us and our Navy family. The OCS Survival Guide and the video posted are sure to be an invaluable help to Mike. This info is also a great comfort to my Wife Pat and I, since it helps Mike and takes some mystery out of the mix. This is not going to be easy but its clear that we have been welcomed into special family and are very, very appreciative. Thank you for all you are doing.
Thank you for the add and the wealth of info. Of course, I have gotten a lot of info over the last 2 years from the NavyDads FB page as well. And thanks to our mutual friend, Dale, I am sure that you have seen many pics of both of our daughters.
Thankful for men such as you and others involved in putting these sites together for all of us who want to support each other during our mission in life.
Thanks for the warm welcome Paul and additional info. I could sit here and read through all the info on this site for hours. It really does help ease my mind knowing what my son is experiencing, and will be. I'm so proud of him ! He left for boot camp last Wednesday, his PIR is 01-29-16. I heard that a group is created on FaceBook for each PIR, is that true ?

------------ I consider the Marines a branch of the military and the "sailors, soldiers, and airmen" generic terms for those that serve IN the various branches.
Response:
Marines are neither soldiers, airmen or sailors they are Marines, always capitalized. Marine is to be capitalized since it refers to a title and is sometimes used in place of a proper name (e.g. Hey Marine, adjust your cover!", Vice President of Sales, Mr Jones, Public Relations Officer etc etc).
Thanks for the welcome. Right now I'm a little irked that they shipped Justin out two days before Thanksgiving and now we can't even talk to him, but I'll get over it. He was originally supposed to go in July when he graduated high school, but he fractured his wrist in a bicycle accident so he got his date pushed out. Anyway, I'm glad to be a new member and will explore the website. We are extremely proud of Justin (as I know all the Dads are here of their sons and daughters).
We had some rough years with Justin from age 13 to 16-1/2, but he completely turned his life around and we couldn't be happier. Once he gets through basic he will head back to Coronado to go through SWCC training.
Being brand new to this, I know practically nothing about the Navy, although I have done quite a bit of research on the SWCCs. I look forward to exploring this site and getting to know people. Happy Thanksgiving!
