Jim, thank you for the information and support. I joined NavyDads yesterday while we were waiting for my son's swearing-in ceremony at HOU MEPS. I look forward to PIR in late DEC or early JAN (TBD).
Yes, he is being sent home soon...possibly before the 31st is what he was told...From what I hear it's going to be a pain to be able to re-enlist...I hear it's going to depend on if the recruiter wants to deal w/ it or not...Any advice is greatly appreciated...what should we do when he gets home? Go straight to doctor? Is it my doctor or a Military doctor? Do we go straight to recruiter?
Thanks Jim. I am very excited for him. I know he has prepared himself for this both physically and mentally. We have many family members that are former military, including myself and both his grandfathers. Although he is the first in the family to join the navy and an officer to boot! We are all so very proud. He started on Sunday 9/23. Is this where I can ask specific questions...such as graduation date?...or is there another forum that would do that? The video was nice lining out the 12 week course...made me feel better having an idea how things would go. thanks
Thank you for the welcome, Jim! I work for Lockheed Martin and we do most of our work for the Navy so I am not a complete fish out of water when it comes to the Navy, but I am sure this site will help me learn many things that I am unaware of. Thanks again for the welcome.
Good Evening/Morning...I have been searching for a link to R.S.V.P. for the Sergeants Dinner...cant find it. Is it too late. My son invited me and one other guest and we'd love to come. Been reading about the past ones and the consensus is that all had a great time.
Thanks for welcome, Jim! I'm glad I finally joined. It's definitely been a tough first week. I agree, though. The more information I see about the process, the more confident I become with his decision to become sailor.
Thank you both for the quick acceptance and insight you've offered. I wish I would have found this site prior to my son's PIR. He's just bagan A school and I think I'm more excited than he is. I did review the OPSEC link, I get it. I too am very proud of my son. He is the first in my immediate family to serve our country. Thanks agin guys............KEV
Thanks to you and Paul for a great web site and all that you do on FB as well. While both my dad and my wife's father served in WWII, neither of us or our siblings served in the military. When our daughter went off to law school the Navy was not a part of her plans. However, while in law school she met some great folks who attended the Naval Academy, served their initial commitment and then took a break from service to attend law school before going back active in the JAG Corps. The rest is history as it was a great decision and she has loved every bit of her service as a Navy JAG officer.
Oh wow, thank you guys for the warm welcome! My son has just enlisted. This is a whole new adventure for us as a family and we are so proud of him. I'm sure I'm going to use all the wrong vocabulary words for what I try to say. And, oh boy, what about those acronyms? I'll try not to ask too many stupid questions as I work to catch up!

Hi Jim,
I thought it was odd she asked for my address. She probably meant email but either way. Thanks for following up.
