Paul thank you for bringing this video out.  Real touching for me with a couple of boys in the Navy and in afew more that attended college.  As a Doobie Brothers fan this was great to see.

the press release:

The Doobie Brothers Partner with The USO for "Far From Home" Video Premiere

The Doobie Brothers have partnered with The USO to premiere the video for their newest single “Far From Home” on USO.org.  Written by singer Pat Simmons, “Far From Home” recounts the bittersweet moment when a son or daughter leaves home for the first time.  Inspired by his daughter’s departure for college, the song also hits home with military families, who are no strangers to lengthy separations.

Wanting to involve their fans in the video process, the band called for video submissions that depicted emotional reunions.  "Some of the most affective videos were those of military families,” said vocalist Pat Simmons.  “Their separation being a very contemporary subject, we realized then that the song addressed a broader audience.  It was as much about other families’ experiences—particularly the military.”

The video features real life footage of service men and women returning to their families, among them Airman Brant P. Healey, Master Sgt Joe Meyers, Sgt Mark Foster all from the Air Force; U.S. Army members Adriane Zachery Canales, Pvt First class Michael Rivera returning home from Iraq, and members of the Iowa National Guard 734th Agro-Business Development Team and Iowa 133rd Infantry Regiment.  The video also features footage from Simmons' personal home videos.

A long-time supporter of America’s armed forces, The Doobie Brothers have entertained and visited troops stationed across East Asia and the Pacific during the mid-1980s.  Additionally, the Grammy-award winning rock band have donated and raised more than 2.5 million dollars in support of service heroes.  For more information on the band and their latest album World Gone Crazy, please visit DoobieBros.com
