Hi Paul. My son John PIR'd September 6, 2019 & is now awaiting FC A school to start. He says he's been told 18 September.
John is 22 and is joining after some college and working two jobs and lots of hours. I have family members who are Navy Reserve & retired who have influenced him to commit to service to his country via a Navy career. He chose an ET role and they assigned him FC and he's fine with it, and seems to look forward to it.
We are all very proud of him.
I am not a veteran. I worked 40 years in commercial aviation as an operations and safety manager. John was born in Los Angeles and has lived in the LA, Seattle, and New York area growing up.
Im an avid reader of history, and recently have read Neptunes Inferno, the story of the US Navy at Guadalcanal, and Shattered Sword, the story of the Battle of Midway from the Japanese perspective. I recommed both highly.
I cycle, but currently out of shape and need to get my act together.
I look forward to hearing from you and all the other parents, family and friends.
Paul, My son, Travis is on Ship 07 div 321 - He is graduating 9/11 - I am planning on going - any tips - -what have you learned about this div?? - and I haven't gotten mail - I know he is busy - but still worry about him....Thought you could give me some info on your experience..

Paul,
welcome aboard.I see you are new to the site. there are lots of groups and topics here with all kinds of imformation in them if you can't find what you are looking for fel free to start a topic or get on the chat and ask away. I have yet to find a topic or question that someone on this site hasn't had an answer for. By the way what will bill Zachery's rating be? in the other branches that would be their MOS.
glad to see you here and thank Zachery for his enlistment into the Navy. Life, Liberty and the pursuit of those who threaten it.
Paul, Welcome Aboard! I found navyformoms in searching for answers to my son's future. I just knew their had to be a site for dads like n4m's but I was wrong. So I started this site so us dads would also have a place to call home. I'm new at this and I hope this site will benefit fathers that come behind us. So jump right in share concerns, join groups, share info, and show off your sailor. I'm so glad to find out their are so many proud Navy Dads just like myself. I hope this site benefits you and your family throughout your sons journey in the Navy. Thank Zachery for his service for me and yours as well. Thanks again for joining us.
Sincerely,EG
Welcome to NavyDads Paul! I'm sure you'll find the site as fun and useful as I have. Explore and make some friends, add your comments to a discussion or two, read the postings in the various groups-- even start one or two. I have! If you have any questions or concerns about your sailor and what he is going through...ask! I'm sure someone here will have the answer or can point you in the right direction to find out. I'm lucky enough to have two sailors- my son Eric is on the tail end of a seven-month cruise on the carrier Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) and my daughter Kat recently returned from a seven-month cruise on the carrier Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). And Paul this is a great place to brag about your sailor as well! So join in and let us know how Zachery is doing!
As a parent of a sailor currently or soon to be at Great Lakes you'll have many questions about what your son is going through. Thanks to one of our members we have two excellent videos that you can access from the Video area on the NavyDads.com main page: New Bootcamp 1 of 2 and New Bootcamp 2 of 2. These videos will answer many of your questions and concerns and will give you a better understanding of how the United States Navy transforms our children into sailors!
Be sure to spend some time in the Bootcamp group- there are many questions and answers available to help you understand what your sailor is going through. And as PIR draws closer, be sure to spend some time going through the PIR-Tips, Hints and Helps group- we’ve tried to assemble some tips and suggestions to make your sailor's PIR more enjoyable. And Paul- thank you for your service to our great country. Best Regards- Paul
