I can't remember the order but the next phase will include weapons training (Camp Pendleton), small unit tactics, mission planning, SERE school, etc. culminating in a final exam of planning and executing a simulated mission.  My son enjoyed this phase because of all of the real world training he received.  Nothing like shooting the BIG GUNS at Pendleton!

Tom,  Do you have an update on your son?  Mine just returned from a 6 month deployment that was stretched into 8 due to the current events that we have been reading about since early summer.  Those boys could use some help, give me good news! :)

Hi David! Thank you for checking in. He crushed 'The Tour' and last week was weps (Dry) and assorted classes. They're doing their workouts on their own but still every day. Today begain the first week of two weeks at Pendleton! Some shakeout during the tour and last week in weapon testings. 

Curious.. This first week at Pendleton I'm told that they camp and next week barracks. Can you shed any light on that? 

Congratulations on your son's return. Please extend a Bravo Zulu for me. Does he get home on some leave after such a deployment? Not sure what he may have been doing as there as been so much news.

Also curious if he went right to teams at grad or another school? My son said it could go either way. We should be seeing our son during the holidays and now have a grad date so I'm soon to book my flights. Just can't wait.

I'm of course cautious on what I share here. Please let me know if I'm sharing anything that I shouldn't

Remarkable that he's now been in just over 5 years and will soon be looking at his E-6 tests. My son is the best man that I know.

The Tour and Pendleton were the biggest shakeout phases when my son went through as well.  He had one candidate in his class that had never fired a weapon until basic training and that was pistol only.  Guy was one of the most fit and brightest candidates in the class, but was dangerous on the live fire range.  If I remember correctly, my son "camped out" the entire time at Pendleton.  As we have discussed, a lot has changed since he went through the schoolhouse, but the instructors use that time to simulate potential deployment conditions.  When is graduation scheduled?  Nobody does pomp and circumstance like the Navy.  It will be one of the most proud days of your life!  When they read the list of how many miles the class has run, how many miles the class has swam, how many rounds of ammo they have fired, etc. you will look at your son and shake your head wondering how he survived.  My son gave me his graduation pin that night and I have it framed in a shadow box hanging on my office wall.  Quite humbling!  After graduation most operators will immediately be assigned to one of the teams, but a few (medics specifically) will go to specialty schools for 6 - 9 months before reporting to their team.

My son is going through the post deployment check in process (weapons, boats, etc.) and will take an extended leave beginning next week.  My wife and I are taking all of our kids on a cruise for Thanksgiving so we will have plenty of time to catch up and reconnect.

Once your son returns from Pendleton he will be on the downslide.  I will pray that he remains injury free the remainder of his training because that should be the only thing that will trip him up.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!  I'm sure it will still go forward due to the small class size. How many will be pinned on Thursday? Enjoy the day, have a cold one at Mc P's for me, and let me know what team your son is assigned to.

I saw a few photos of the Class 108 graduation online this morning and thought of you guys. What an amazing achievement! When you get a free moment I would love to hear about it. How many were in the class? What SBT has your son been assigned to? Any updated info regarding the teams and their mission going forward? Etc.

WOW! Strange times we are in these days. My son is also on SBT-20 and is back in regular workup mode. They are short a few guys and are awaiting the "new guys", so hopefully they can hookup in the near future. Sorry to hear about the blood clots. I can only imagine your disappointment, but thankfully his mom and girlfriend were able to make the trip. How do I convey my private contact information on the Navy Dads forum? I'd like to touch base with you directly so I can give you my son's cell number for you to forward to Jared. Congratulations again to your son! It is quite an accomplishment.
