Hi Ross,

Congrats to your sailor!  According to my son, who is on the USS Annapolis, Command selects a "sailor of the quarter" and a "sailor of the year" based on his/her performance and success.  "Blue Jacket of the Quarter" is a very commendable award, indeed!

Anyone know what they mean by Blue Jacket of the Quarter.

My son was referred to as the "Blue Jacket of the Quarter" by his  Captain  in a FRG Newsletter.  I don't really understand what they mean.

He is on the USS Alabama 731 Gold

Hey Don,

  My son got his dolphins on the Kentucky (Blue), then he was on the Green crew when it went into drydock for fuel, mods, etc., then he went to the Maine.  Since it's his first cruise and the reactor of the Kentucky was just recently refueled (once every 20 years), they probably won't let him peek at the 'hot-rock that makes the sub go...' :^) {sorry guys, nuke humor}

 And now he's finishing up his enlistment and will be *HOME* in a few weeks!!  His mother and I are counting the days.

Don C,   my son Mike is  a nukeMM  on the Kentucky.  He's been there since July and is anxious to get his first cruise under his belt.  A tiger cruise would be amazing.

My Tiger Cruise on the Stennis, CNV 74 was a bucket list item and the bunks were tight but you are ready for them when the time comes.  Lots to do and see.  Our other son is a sonar tech on USS Kentucky SSBN 737 and we got a tour of his boat a few months ago.  Very impressive these subs.  More room than the fast attacks and nothing like what Hollywood depicts.  Now if I can just get a Tiger Cruise on this boat!

Grant, Thanks there are less harder ways to become an Officer. Most people do no know what a Mustang is. My father was a true mustang. He dropped out of high school and enlisted in WWII. I remember when he was just First Class, when he made Chief, Warrant Officer and finally an Officer. He retired as a Lieutenant with 30 years. If he would have stayed he would have made Lieutenant Commander the next year. Not bad for someone that dropped out of school in the 11th grade and never became  a 90 day wonder.

David B, I am about 6' and right at 250# it was a tight fit for both length of bunk and when lying on my side but certainly doable. You won't spend too much time in your bunk anyway.

I think a Tiger Cruise would be great!  I don't know about sleeping though.  I'm 6'2" and north of 250#.  The stacked racks look VERY small.

Scott--going Mustang means joining the military as an enlisted and later earning the rank of an officer.
