Welcome to NavyDads Julie! I'm sure you'll find the site as fun and useful as I have. Explore and make some friends, add your comments to a discussion or two, read the postings in the various groups-- even start one or two. I have! If you have any questions or concerns about your sailor and what he is going through...ask! I'm sure someone here will have the answer or can point you in the right direction to find out. I'm lucky enough to have two sailors- my son Eric just returned from a seven-month cruise on the carrier Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) and my daughter Kat returned last fall from a seven-month cruise on the carrier Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). And Julie this is a great place to brag about your sailor as well! So join in and let us know how Jeremy is doing! Best Regards- Paul

I don't have my list anymore of items to bring and not to bring...I got most of my info from the TR's website....be sure to check out your ship's website really carefully for that info. Also- I'm not sure where you are embarking....if Mayport, then there are a series of places in Jacksonville that run shuttles to and from the airport because the shuttle to the base leaves from the USO at the Jacksonville airport (downstairs by baggage claim). I stayed at the Travelodge....but there are a whole series of places just outside the airport......internet time for sure!

Remember you are on a working warship.....you won't have a captain's ball to attend. Comfy and easy to pack and change into/out of. You do not have a ton os space---- read my blogs in the Tiger Cruiise group for the Theodore Roosevelt's tiger cruise. Bring flip-flops or shower shoes!!!! Suncreen (SPF 39 million is a good choice!!), book to kick back with on down time....small flashlight to get around after lights out.....non slip deck shoes or tennis shoes....there is hyd fluid, fuel, grease, here and there....think of camping on a $5 billion campsite and you'll get the idea....naturally soap, towel, etc.. It's a rush and something you won't forget.....pack less than what you think you'll need.........

Julie, Welcome Aboard!

I'm so glad to have the Navy Moms on here to keep us men in line. My son is an ABE aboard the USS Ronald Reagan in San Diego, Ca. and my family and I couldn't be prouder of him. When he first enlisted I found NavyForMoms in searching for answers to my son's future. I just knew their had to be a site for dads like n4m's but I was wrong. So I started this site so us dads would also have a place to call home. We have many moms on the site and benefit greatly from their point of views and we are willing to help the moms in any way we can. So jump right in share concerns, join groups, share info, and show off your sailor. I hope this site benefits you and your family throughout your sons journey in the Navy. Thank Jeremy for his service for me and thanks again for joining us.

Sincerely, EG
