Well, the time has come. Last weekend before my son ships out. He heads to BC on 9, September, 2014. Very proud of him, but also sad since my best friend for the last 18 years is leaving me. But he's wanted this almost his entire life and I know he'll be a very successful member of the U.S. Navy!
Any others with children heading to BC next week, correspond over the next few months and we'll work through this together! Already planning my trip to GL to see the graduation! Can't wait!

Hey Harvey. My son will be arriving in BC sometime on Monday from New York. He has never been happier! We are enjoying the last week with dinners out, company stopping by and seeing him workout like a mad man to be ready. I will let you know when we get "the call" since we will be a day ahead. Where is your son coming from?
Hey Rich. My son will coming from Virginia. He too, has never been happier. We've been doing about the same with company, dinners out, etc. Got the big get together this weekend. Will be celebrating his leaving, birthday (turns 18 on the 20th), and his grandfathers birthday (17th) all at the same time. Really special too because he turns 18 and his grandfather turns 81 on the same year. My son too, has been working out some to get ready. Not quite the 'mad man', but working out none the less. He was in JROTC program for four years during high school too, so hopefully that's got him as prepared as one could expect to be too. Tell your son good luck, and maybe we'll get the chance to meet at graduation! By the way, my son's name is Harvey, but he goes by Trey since he's a III, just in case they cross paths at boot camp.
Awesome. Enjoy the party! Tell Trey to keep an eye out for Brandon and thank him for his service to this great Nation!
Well, all went as well as could be expected yesterday. Son made it to GL safely. Got the call last night about 2145 ET. Son is pumped and ready to go. Mom not quite so much. All-in-all, it was good though. Now to plan for the graduation in a couple months. Already can't wait!
Hey Harvey,
My son was delayed and arrived with yours on Tuesday night. I am sure all is going well since we have not heard from him since his arrival in BC. Like you and everyone else who started this week, we are anxiously awaiting the "kid in a box", his address and his first letter home. They are becoming better men as we speak! Last night I had the privilege of visiting the 9/11 Memorial and Museum in NYC. It makes me proud that our kids and all the warriors in every branch of Service are willing to step-up and defend our great Nation!
Yeah - today is an extra special and extra proud moment for mom and I for sure!
Our daughter shipped out 9/9 as well from San Antonio as that is the closest MEPS to Austin. A friend of her's shipped from Amarillo the say day. .... received the call around midnight that she made it safely through Chicago so all is good. We had a friend whose son shipped the week before and he was allowed to call home the first weekend so we are looking forward to that.
Man, if our son was allowed to call home this weekend, that would make my wife's day (and mine) for sure! The way we understand is usually about Week 3 or so before they are allowed another call home, so I sure hope you're right! Congratulations to your daughter also! My son was trying to get Master-at-Arms rate, but was unsuccessful and got Gunners Mate instead. Had he gotten MA, he would have been coming to San Antonio for 'A' School as I understand. Instead, he'll attend 'A' school at GL now. Being a big Cowboys fan, I was hoping he was gonna get San Antonio, so it would give me an excuse to come down to Texas and maybe visit Cowboys Stadium for a game while in the state. LOL
My wife hopes it happens as well. Our daughter did say she would call us this weekend during the 20 second call so who knows. My daughter will be in San Antonio for up to a year for A school and that's only 90 minutes away so that is nice, then off to wherever. As I told my wife I imagine having sailors at our house for some of the non major holidays and stuff since we are close.
Got to love the fact that our Recruits are meeting kids from all over the Country, immediately expanding their horizons. Texas, Virginia and N.Y. just on this thread. I am sure every State is represented in every Division. Very cool.
True. I'm curious to see who she runs into that she knows. One went a week before and the other the same day via Amarillo..... I know I am NOT ready for the cold when we go back for graduation...
Yes Rich - very cool indeed!
