We Render Honors to the USS Arizona

081207-N-0535P-215 PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (Dec. 7, 2008) Woody Derby, a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor, salutes the names of the deceased at the USS Arizona Memorial during a Prayer for Peace ceremony sponsored by the Japan Religious Committee for World Federation. The prayer ceremony followed a joint U.S. Navy/National Park Service ceremony commemorating the 67th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The theme of this year's historic commemoration, "Pacific War Memories: The Heroic Response to Pearl Harbor," emphasizes the brave efforts of those who fought at sea, on land, and in the air, to turn the tide in the Pacific. More than 2,000 distinguished guests and the general public joined service members, Pearl Harbor survivors and their families and friends for the annual observance. Hi again AZ, man is hot out there. We finally got through Boot, and our Sailor has been in Pensacola 2 weeks for IT school, and he class's up on Monday. Then who knows where.

You're son is in a difficult class for sure! We all relaize there is little you can talk about with him or his training. Be sure to visit the SEAL group...you can post questions and messages in private to those you have made friends and not fear violating OPSEC guidelines.

Just found this site yesterday, and I'm not sure what details I can give. My son is in BUD/S, actually having a good time. He says it is hard, but he likes it.

Hi Everyone,

Thought I would let you all know that my daugther Kelly will finally be frocked on Tuesday becoming an AO 3rd Class Petty Officer. We are so proud of her and the accomplishments she has made since enlisting. We pray that she keeps safe and continuesto make herself proud of who she is and what she can accomplish. Thanks to everyone for your support...Tom

Hi Kevin,

Thank you for the response to Kelly's promotion. I read that congratulations are in order for your Tyler. Will England be his first assignment? Kelly is an Airman Ordinance for the F/A 18 Super Hornets based in Lemore CA. She is one of only three women in her squadron who work on the ordinance for the fighters and has joined the 300 Club of loading 300 rounds of 70mm bullets into an F/A 18 non-stop in a certain timeframe. The other airman did not think she would be able to complete this task, but she did. Now she has completed her first steps in becoming a Petty Officer.

Thanks again for the warm congratulations for Kelly and please say congratulations to Taylor for us on completing his C-School and getting a great assignment in England. Tom
