The prayer ceremony followed a joint U.S. Navy/National Park Service ceremony commemorating the 67th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The theme of this year's historic commemoration, "Pacific War Memories: The Heroic Response to Pearl Harbor," emphasizes the brave efforts of those who fought at sea, on land, and in the air, to turn the tide in the Pacific. More than 2,000 distinguished guests and the general public joined service members, Pearl Harbor survivors and their families and friends for the annual observance. Hi Paige,

Thank you for the information on the upcoming picnic. It sounds like a lot of fun meeting the new DEPs and their families. I will check my schedule and get back to you, but I am pretty sure that Peggy and I can make the event. It will be nice to meet you, your son, and the other Navy Dads and Moms from the website.

We heard from Kelly just about an hour ago that she and the other seven recruits madde the it to O'Hare Airport in Chicago. It is pouring down rain at the moment there. She was so glad that there were four women from Arizona that nade the trip with her and she found out that three of them will be going to Penescola for their A school training at the asame time she will be there. So new commrades are forming and she is very happy for that. I will keep you posted on her progress. Good night from Chandler AZ.

Tom, we will keep Kelly in our thoughts!!

You are correct - N4M's is our abbreviation for NavyForMoms. The other is the Delayed Entry Program for the Navy recruits. The Recruiters from the NW Phx. area recruiting branches are holding a picnic for the DEP recruits and their families. They have invited the Navy moms and dads to come and share our personal experiences with the parents of the new recruits. They are expecting a fairly large number of people to show up for the event. We are going to set up a table with a banner and flyers to hand out to the parents telling about the NavyDads and NavyForMoms web sites. There will also be a table set up for care package donations for the "Adopt a Sailor" program. My son is driving over from San Diego to attend the picnic with me and plans to share his time and talk to some of the recruits and answer questions they may have. I'm looking forward to meeting with the other moms and dads who attend. It should be a real fun day!!
Tom, if you're interested in going, the picnic is on April 4th from 10:30-2:00 at Cortez Park on Dunlap and 35th Ave.

Hi Everyone,

We dropped off our daughter Kelly this morning at the Chandler Recruitment Center at 5:00 a.m. where she left with her Chief for processing in Phoenix before leaving later today for Great Lakes. The adventures begin today. Thanks for all your support. I will write soon to let you know her division placement.

I was wondering what the event you wrote about is and also what are DEPers and N4M. I think N4M stands for Navy for Moms. Thanks for the information.

Paul,
I'm glad your seriously considering it. It's been confirmed that the Navy Dads will be very welcomed and encouraged to attend. The last report from the Recruiters is that they are expecting 70-100 parents of the DEPers to show up, so we could really use the help and support. This is also a sort of meet-n-greet for the N4M and it's a great idea to have one for the AZ NavyDads members as well. Billy is planning to come home that weekend in order to attend the picnic with me. He said "mom I can go and spend time talking to the DEPers and answering questions they have". I am proud of him for wanting to do that and I'm hoping things will work out so he can come.
Thanks for the update on the flyer. It's going to be nice to have them to hand out.

Tom,
We'll be thinking of Kelly as she leaves for bootcamp this week. I understand the empty nest syndrome none too well. I am in the same boat!

Kelly is our only child and I expect the empty nest syndrom to hit us after she calls when she is in at Great Lakes. I will keep everyone posted on her progresses. Kind regards,

Tom,
Please give my best wishes to Kelly. I attended a going away party yesterday in Prescott Valley for a recruit of one of my N4M friends. He leaves for Phx. on Tuesday and flys out on Wed. Maybe their paths will cross along the way.

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to you know that our daughter Kelly will be leaving Chandler Arizona this coming Tuesday for her boot camp training at Great Lakes. We very proud of her decision to enlist in the Navy and for suggesting that her mother and I join these wonderful web sites. Thank you for all your support and words of advice to my questions that have posted to the Navy Dads Daughters group and here. I am very grateful to the Chandler Recruiting Station at Dobson and Chandler Blvd. for preparing Kelly physically and mentally for this new adventure and career. The recruiters are doing a great job in having their recruits learn the general orders, security codes and many other details prior to their recruits departures for basic training. Kelly feels very confident in what she has learned and is ready for the next phase to begin.

Keep us in your thoughts next Tuesday as we say good bye at 5:00 a.m. at the recruitment station. Thanks again. Tom, Peggy, and Kelly McGlew.
