We Render Honors to the USS Arizona

081207-N-0535P-215 PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (Dec. 7, 2008) Woody Derby, a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor, salutes the names of the deceased at the USS Arizona Memorial during a Prayer for Peace ceremony sponsored by the Japan Religious Committee for World Federation. The prayer ceremony followed a joint U.S. Navy/National Park Service ceremony commemorating the 67th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The theme of this year's historic commemoration, "Pacific War Memories: The Heroic Response to Pearl Harbor," emphasizes the brave efforts of those who fought at sea, on land, and in the air, to turn the tide in the Pacific. More than 2,000 distinguished guests and the general public joined service members, Pearl Harbor survivors and their families and friends for the annual observance. Welcome Jim...thanks for joining our little Arizona group. While there are that many of us yet, I hope that we continue to grow so we can brag about our sailors!

Thank you for the encouraging the use of the New Bootcamp videos. Our family has watched them together and Kelly feels very comfident with her deciosn and her preparations. She meets weekly with her recruiting officers and spends every Thursday evenings preparing with other recruits doing phys ed activites, learning the Navy codes, ranks, and other valuable information which she will be responsible to complete at Bootcamp. She has already qualified herself in the mile running exercise timing is completing her phys ed qualifications in the next few weeks. Her recruiter is a Navy Seal and is preparing them for what to expect.

Thanks again for your recommendations on the videos. I will keep you posted on her preparations. We live in Chandler Arizona, near Dobson rd. and Chandler blvd.

Tom- I can't emphasize enough viewing the New Bootcamp 1 of 2 and New Bootcamp 2 of 2 videos we have available in the Video section on the site's main page. These two videos are the best I've seen that tells you what goes on in Bootcamp and what to expect. The more you and Kelly know about those eight weeks the better she will be prepared. Thanks for joining the group!

Hello everyone,
My daughter Kelly is on the delay entry program and will going to Great Lakes on March 24th. After that she will heading to Pennsecola FL for avionics weapons with officer training following completion of this speciality training.

I am glad to see a group just of Arizona sailors and I will keep you all updated on Kelly's accomplishments in the future.

Oh, I'm jealous!!! I've always wanted to do that. Now who's rubbing it in??
Billy was fortunate enough to take the trip though. He went a few years ago with some former boy scout friends and had a great time. The Grand Canyon is one of my favorite places to visit, but I haven't been there in years.

That's a good idea! I'm sure eventually we'll be able to recruit more members. I'm happy to say that we don't see 112 degrees up here in the Prescott area. If we did, I'm sure it would be a record breaker. In fact, there are not too many days in the 100 range.

Typically classing-up is moving from being a bootcamp grad to starting A-school though I guess any move to the next level of schools fits in to the term! Let's remember this weather that first 112 degree day!! I sent an invite to all the members I know that reference Arizona.....I'll send another in a week or two if we don't see anyone new joining!!
