I've learned from my son a sad point with our society in today's world. The base my son went to after GL does not want it's sailors to wear their uniforms off base it makes them an easy target. Has our news media made this a story in the 6 o'clock news? In a foreign port I can understand but in the United States? I don't know.
Hey, brand new to the group, my son just had his PIR. I saw Rick's explanation of "class up". My son said there were only 10 people for his class (job is an "OS") but seems to think he is starting this week. How may people are usually needeed to start a class. Also, is there an A-school graduation ceremony? If so, is it like PIR & worth going to, not really?
Paul--- There is never a set time between when they graduate and leave. Some people leave the next day and some I have seen stay there a week before leaving. Your child should find out close to their graduation when they are going to be leaving.
I know my son (CTN) left the next day after grad for leave, all he had to do was clear base and he was free to go. Have no idea what they are doing now, I would guess it depends on the base and where they are going for eother C school or duty assignment.
My sons friend is a medic and came home after A school for about 10 days I think.
does anyone know how much time we can spend with our sailor after "A" school graduation. I am flying in from Nebraska and am trying to set a schedule for the day. thank you for your time paul
They are also required to take classes at the new base, most are just more of the same type they had in GL but many are base specific since they are told where they can go off base, which areas are "safe" to be in and these can change often.
John the bases were locked down my father in law works for a Navy base as a security officer. He told me the exercise is now over so they should be back to normal operation
Paul............One thing to think about when sending food is where it can be stored. The last thing anyone wants is for all the creepy crawllies to find the food, I can promise you the instructors won't be happy if that happens. Once he settles in and classes up he will have access to the NEX and will be able add to his food supply. When my son was in A/C schools he ate breakfast on base and did supper off base, it cost him money but he was happier with the choices and almost everywhere in P'Cola offered discounts.
