Have to laugh because the carriers are "big city" life. Before we did our Tiger Cruise (on a destroyer) we got instructions about bringing folding chairs and plenty of comfortable blankets to watch the movies on an interior deck which would have the doors open. Then we got an apology message with DO NOT bring folding chairs, space is limited. Once aboard, we knew why - some of the rabbit holes you have to navigate aren't big enough to get even folding chairs through. LOL!
seems the parents react more strongly than do the sailors.......I heard A LOT of sailors during my Tiger Cruise on the USS Theodore Roosevelt use the term "boat" for the carrier..........in the end...does it really matter? And also heard it plenty on my daughters carrier, USS Abraham Lincoln......
chuck: Don't worry. We're just the parents/relatives, not the experts. LOL!
Sorry about the boat thing. My mistake.
And a destroyer is referred to as "mean". LOL!
Yup. Our daughter's original recruiter serves on a boat. She's on a destroyer now, which is a ship. LOL!
except subs...proper usage to call them a "boat"
My Father who was in the Navy during WWII told me that
"A boat is anything that you can put on a ship"
LOL
chuck: "Boat?" Our daughter also had A School at GL, and has been on her ship since August, 2010, but we're still here because we can continue to help others understand Boot Camp since we've been through it. We're family here still. Congratulations!
Well i have been a member of the bootcamp area for about 8 weeks and now it is time to move to the A-school area. my son had his PIR on Jan 27 and is now at A-school in GL. He will be there for a few weeks then off to his boat. looking forward to talking with more dads.
