Bonnie graduated boot on 10/21 and is in San Antonio for Corpsman A school, followed by Dental Assistant C School. Navy Medicine Training Center. Very proud of my fine sailor girl!
We cqnnot attend A School graduation, will there be a ceremony for Power School graduation?
Congrats to your son KHK. Guam is a pretty island. Can't say much about the island today. I was stationed there in 69-70. Much of my time was spent in Thailand. I do think the Naval foot print on the island is much smaller today then back then.
My great grandson has graduated boot 14 Oct and is now in gteat lakes going to ATT before going to STS A school in San Diego. Iam so proud of him
Chris congrats to your daughter, may she do well in her NAVY career.
Gary, it was adjusted, which is why I know about it. LOL! Her Recruiter, who made Chief just before she graduated boot camp, made sure of it, and that's how the two weeks was set up. It just couldn't remember what it was called. LOL!
more on RAP and HARP (info from member Craig):
RAP duty allows sailors to save some of their leave by working at the recruiting station while on vacation. This helps the Navy by having the sailor work and talk to people from their own town and let them know about the Navy. It's a win/win for the Navy. The sailor wins by not having to use up leave (vacation), while the Navy wins by having these sailors get others to join.
Most sailors haven't a clue about RAP and HARP duty, so I will let you guys pass it on to them.
Here is the official instructions, and I will talk about RAP duty below, since most don't qualify for HARP. (but I will post a link about HARP too).

=================================================
1. RAP duty can not take/use rap while on holiday leave while still stationed at "A" School.
2. RAP duty is only when a sailor is on leave between school and prior to reporting to their first command. It cannot use between "A" and "C" school.
3. Students do not qualify for HARP duty, as they must be at their first command.

Recruiting Assistance Leave Program
What Is the Recruiting Assistance Leave Program a. Members on regular leave between “A” or “C” school or apprenticeship training and their first permanent duty station may participate in a program of 5 consecutive days of assistance to recruiting.
b. This assistance includes but is not limited to the following items:
(1) regularly scheduled school canvassing visits,
(2) speaking at recruiting functions and civic activities,
(3) follow-up of PRO-NAVY-RTC referrals, and
(4) accompanying recruiters on home visits.
How to Document Participation
a. After completion of recruiting assistance, members must obtain documentation of participation by endorsement from the Navy Recruiting District.
b. Upon reporting to next duty station, such documentation will constitute the authority for personnel officers and personnel support activity detachments to credit member with up to 5 days of non-chargeable leave.
Bill, I see your leave question has been answered. There are different situations for each sailor. Some may get leave others may not. Some may only get one week, it all depends on scheduling.
My son was at Great Lakes for one year and one day. He had thirty days leave on the books. He finished A-School on 02/Oct/09. His orders were to report to C-School in California on 02/Feb/10. He was given leave over the Christmas stand down and returned to Great Lakes where he remained another two weeks and received another leave prior to reporting to San Diego. A portion of his final two weeks was travel time with which he and I drove to Calif. The remaining portion of time was pure leave time. My son also chose to work for the NAVY Recruiter. This work time was call RAP Duty (Recruiter Assistance Program) . It was not mandatory duty. This program may still be in use. The five days my son worked with the recruiter was counted as work days. The recruiter documented these days and submitted them through channels to his final command. Those five days were then added back to his leave totals.
Chris you may want to have your daughter check with her command to see if her leave was adjusted. You may even contact her recruiter to see if this is still being done. Gary T.
Yes, it definitely was discouraged in our daughter's case so she had to work five or six days while she was home after A School and before reporting to her ship. Her Recruiter made her study, and she also led a run for the DEP group. LOL!
Actually they can and sometimes do go in the "hole" on leave, they still get paid, they just can't take any additional leave (baring emergencies) until they have caught up and have days to the good. It's not encourged or specific commands may deny it. For example a sailor takes 14 days leave between A school and 1st assignment, then there is an emergency (death of parent, sibling spouse) and he returns home for services, etc. He may have to go into the hole, he just can't take any casual leave until he/she catches back up. It adds back quick at about 2.5 days a month....6 months at sea and they have back about 15 days. I was the same back when I was an old Army Grunt.
