Paul Thanks for that info. We live near Chicago and my son is in Pensacola and according to him he is going to Japan after A-school. According to someone on Navy mom's he would have to pay for his flight to Chicago and also pay the difference in price from Chicago or Pensacola to Japan. She also said that the navy travel office makes the arrangments for the flights. Which seems fair to me. I still find it hard to beleive that there is'nt a c-school for AO attached to a helicopter squadron before going to Japan, but according to my son he goes straight to Jpan.

Richard-I just talked with my son. He just Graduated A School there on the 24th, and is in holding till Dec 1st, when he is supposed to leave for NIOC, Hawaii. Since he wants to come home before going to Hawaii, all he did was go to his student adviser, and they gave him a phone number to call to reroute his flight to Las Vegas, NV. They allow you to do that, and they will pay for it. But as for his continuation flight to Hawaii, he will have to pay for it, not the Navy. It's worth it to me, as we haven't seen him since Boot Camp in September! So tell your son to go inquire with his student adviser about the flight thing...hope this helps!

Hello again guys. My son and I are really confused now. He says he is graduating from a school Dec 7 and is a grad and go. He also told me he is going to take a leave to come home for the holidays. I'm sure he does'nt have any written orders yet so how does he know when and where he will be going?. He says he is going to Japan and that if he comes home first he will have to pay his air fare from Chicago to Japan. I thought the navy would pay for that flight and he would have to pay for a flight from Pensacola to Chicago. He also told me that no one seems to want to help him find out what he has to do for the arrangements. Is there a sight on here or on the internet I can go to for info? Is there a office that he can go to in Pensacola that can fill him in on whats going on and give him some help. Rich

Richard, I agree with Chris my son is supposed to be in Bahrain he is with a MSF group but so far I think he has only spent about a month actually in Bahrain. He currently is somewhere in the Indian Ocean. He finally got a email address on the boat he is on and here from him almost daily now. When he was in Bahrain we skyped almost daily and it worked great.

Richard: The way communications are these days, most times you'll find wherever he is he may have access to at least Internet communications - maybe even on a daily basis. Even our daughter aboard a destroyer we hear from normally several times a week, and she's "out there" somewhere. She's also based in San Diego, but hasn't been there for months and is many time zones away now. If they're on a base somewhere, the NEX or rec facilities usually have free wireless Internet and you can use Skype (with webcams) to see each other.

Hello All
I have a question and maybe someone here can help me. I talked to my son today and he is a AO in a school. He said he was third on some test and picked to work with helocopters and said he was going to Japan. He said he will be with HS-10. I googled Hs-10 and it says they are in San Diego. I sure hope he does'nt go to Japan, but he seems to want that. I would rather have him in the states so we could see him more often. Any info about this subject would be nice.

Dick-My son said at the time he filled out his 'dream sheet' he was told if he went overseas it would be Germany, Italy, or Guam. His next location choice was the west coast. I would think that he would go to the fleet first, but I suppose it is where they need him the most. Still just curious if any recent IT grad Dads can report in...I'd like to hear. Hey Mike-How's it going? The Nimitz huh...define 'soft orders'...Thanks

With that rating he could be almost anywhere. Did he get to make any choices. I won't say all the time, but most always they get three choices with first choice going to the highest rated grad. Thats an if available cause the Navy is going to put you where they have the greatest need.

Hey Paul how are you. My IT son has soft copy orders to the Nimitz.
