Dave - Thanks. We did find out the exactly as you said. He will go to PCola in two weeks. He will just have to use the phone cards until he gets to there, gives us an address and we can send his cell. He will be there for around 8 weeks then who knows.

Raul -

If he remains in the RTC until he leaves for Pensacola, at the airport or after you have his new address. Sailors going to PCola with no further training
at GL did not transfer out of the RTC before flying south - or so it was
when we had PIR in April.

Sorry if my note is too late for you to do anything, just got on line. Maybe
you can still go to airport when he is flying out. (he can't take anything back to his ship at the RTC)

My son has his PIR tomorrow (10/2) and will be delayed a few days before he goes to Pensacola. If he is in Great Lakes will he be able to have his things once he transfers out of RTC or do we wait until we get his address in Pensacola?

kevin - a small technicality - he can have the stuff Joe listed only AFTER
he has officially left the RTC. Even if he is going back to his ship to pack after PIR, nothing can go back with him. Some grad and go parents arrange to meet their sailors at the airport when they are actually travelling on orders,or they wait until they have the new mailing address.

Also agree on the three essentials. Even if they can't wear them right away send the clothes. Also if there are favorite magazines, or home town news articles you think he will enjoy. His space is limited so avoid lots of bulky items.

Kevin - how soon you will be able to visit your son will depend on what his A school command has for rules. He will go through several phases (1,2, and 3) once in Virginia. Each phase defines when they can have liberty or leave the base.
Our son is in San Diego for A school - not a grad and go from basic- had
additional time in GL for SCC and ATT before going to SD. He had off base privileges from the first day in San Diego, except when he had duty assigned outside of class.

Be sure he has a phone card or cell phone to get in touch with you as soon as he is there and can give you more detailed information.

Even if he is grad and go, you may still want be their for his PIR, a really moving event in his life. . . (although you may only be able to see him for a couple of hours).

Kevin my daughter was on Grad and Go in July 24. She in Gulfport now with about three more weeks left. After four weeks she got a weekend pass. She has to work her way to phase 3. But after A school she will be staying in Gulfport finish up her school in Gulfport. Niki told me Gulfport will be her home base for now Hope a long time Really didnt much time last weekend Her mom pick her up and Niki went party with friends I took her
back Sunday evening before muster. But Im lucky Gulfport about hour drive and our grandson lives in Gulfport so we go there a lot
