Hello, I am a new member of your group. My son is in A school in P'Cola, He is CTT. Can't wait to get to know you all and about your men and women who serve our country. Please thank them for me.

during the summer the navy lodge is only 62.00 per night but it helps to make reservations way ahead of time as this is a busy time. the reservations would have to be made by your sailor. if youre into camping there are two campgrounds on base. I think the blue angels put their show on tuesdays, but double check on that.

Hi John and crew!
We just got back home from PIR! Wish we would have had alittle more time. Got 2 calls since he left on the plane. He tells us that he classes up on June 16th and graduates 10-1. Planning our visit there soon, maybe in July. Anyone know about visiting there in Pensacola?

Wow my group has grown!! Good to see.. My son is at GL he has been there sinc he graduated BC PIR1/15/2009. he is taking GSE he finished his turbine strand and he is almost done with the ET portion and will be moving onto the EM electricians portion of school. So in about two to three weeks (he tells me) he will be assigned to the fleet, he is hoping that he gets stationed in Virginia.. we will keep our fingers crossed!

An added note for Bradley Harry's Dad -

I found the following information in the discussion section of the
Great Lakes A School Q & A site on NAVY for moms. It is a site
sponsored by a SDC (student division command) and a Navy career counselor at Great Lakes.

IC "A" SCHOOL:
SCC is 12 days long
ATT is 42 days long
IC "A" School is 36 days long

A number of other rates are also listed there

Bradley's Dad -

OTTO is right on the mark, IC and most other tech type ratings will have both SCC and ATT. Our son is doing both at Great Lakes before he goes to A school.
The ATT course is tailored to the specific rate - so it can be longer or shorter depending on what A school he is going to.(our son's ATT program allows up to 46 days of class because he is STG AEF)

SCC is a classroom instruction class and ATT is a self paced program on
the computer.

The ATT class gets into electricity, math, etc.

Right now they are doing a day shift and a night shift for ATT at Great Lakes since there is a backlog of people needing to take it.

Also expect the infamous 'hold' between any of the schedules sessions.
(Our son waited almost a month for an SCC class, but then only a week
between SCC and ATT class he started last week).

SCC is a program that basically makes the sailor more "fleet ready" by making them aware of other jobs that are routinely performed aboard ship, not just learn the jobs of their particular rating. Kinda like an overview of who does what on a ship and why. This is over simplified, but that's the general idea.
