We get asked a lot how to be dockside when your sailor comes back from cruise:

1. Your Sailor needs to put you on the access list.
1a.This will have to happen soon.

1b. This applies to everyone wishing to attend.
1c. Your Sailor should email the list of guests to his/her LPO/LCPO to be forwarded to Security
2. On day of homecoming arrive early. Parking goes really quick.
3. Enjoy your time with your Sailor.

Our Daughter is on the Ford. She is an ET. Right now they are inspecting rooms as they are completed. She is hoping the ship is completed befor her contract is up.

Daniel Cedarborg. I served onboard the USS Ranger as an AT. It was a diesel carrier. Life for the ET's nuke certified wouldn't be so bad. The specialty would keep him away from some of the worst tasks most of the time. He may be required to do maintenance on the electronics on the tower and other shipboard electronics systems, and would be assigned to the engineering department. He'll have to attend firefighting school like everyone else. Personally, I think it is better than being on a submarine.

Just signed up. My son deployed on the Nimitz today and found this site and hope to find and share info and good thoughts with all of you during his deployment.

So I need some advice.  My son is still in the THU at GL.  He has apparently cleared his medical hold for Nuke but still has to get a waiver for his "history of ulcers" for sub duty (which he got at boot camp due to the antibiotics they gave most of them for the epidemic of colds/flu -- No major symptoms).  While we're hoping there won't be any problem with the waiver, he's been hearing that life on the carriers for the Nukes isn't so hot so he's doubting whether he wants to stay in Nuke if he doesn't get approved for sub duty.  I don't know who he's hearing this from 'cause he just texts us snippets of info from time to time.  Anyone have any views on that issue?  Life on board carriers for Nukes?  Do you think they'd even allow him to transfer out of Nuke for some other duty once he's signed up for this?  I expect to talk to him as some point over the next couple of days and any insight or experiences would be welcome.  Don't want him making any decisions in a vacuum.  We're hoping he just gets cleared for sub duty.

The scene on Dec. 20 after the IWO JIMA's arrival brought the flattop total to nine ships.

Our son is MCSN Brann.  We hope to go.  Much depends on events happening here and whether or not our son wants his dad and mom2.0 there.  Or if he can have all of us.  Am keeping an eye on the information to come forward.  We'll know more then.
