Date Deployed: May 3, 1975 (USS Nimitz).
Unit Cost: About $4.5 billion each.

Length: 1,092 feet (332.85 meters).
Beam: 134 feet (40.84 meters); Flight Deck Width: 252 feet (76.8 meters).
Displacement: Approximately 97,000 tons (87,996.9 metric tons) full load.
Speed: 30+ knots (34.5+ miles per hour).
Crew: Ship's Company: 3,200 - Air Wing: 2,480.
Armament: Two or three (depending on modification) NATO Sea Sparrow launchers, 20mm Phalanx CIWS mounts: (3 on Nimitz and Dwight D. Eisenhower and 4 on Vinson and later ships of the class.).

USS GERALD R FORD (CVN 78) Under construction
USS JOHN F KENNEDY (CVN 79) Construction begins in 2012
Carriers of the Ford class will incorporate fourteen new design features including:
Advanced arresting gear.
Automation, which reduces crew requirements by several hundred from the Nimitz class carrier.
The updated RIM-162 Evolved Sea Sparrow missile system.
AN/SPY-3 dual-band radar (DBR), as developed for Zumwalt class destroyers.
An Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) in place of traditional steam catapults for launching aircraft.
A new nuclear reactor design (the A1B reactor) for greater power generation.
Stealthier features to help reduce radar profile.
The ability to launch the F-35C Lightning II.

I agree as well, this is far from over. The door is now kicked wide open. What a shame, media sensationalism at it's best. Are there not hundreds of more important stories to cover...? Iran... North Korea... our government's deficit... really?

This is just my opinion, right or wrong. If the Navy punishes Capt. Honors for building moral for his Sailors while deployed they will be way out of line. If these were offensive videos, wouldn't we have heard about them four years ago from the Sailors themselves?

The videos may not have been a great idea but by no means should something this trivial cause harm to this Officer's career. No one was forced to watch the transmission. People are too sensitive and more importantly, people are hypocrites. What are the media's actual intentions by running this story every 30 minutes? Who is gaining from this story? Let the military take care of their own business.

On the surface I believe this is another example of the media making a big deal out of something that just isn't very important. When stories like this are "breaking news" then there must not be much going on in the world. I am annoyed that the media takes things like this and exploits. I hope the Navy does not cave in to this attempted media manipulation. Just my 2 cents.

Interesting video....the Navy is testing a magnetic cat system. This is the first launch of an 18 at a test facility. I miss seeing the steam!!!
