My son has just recently arrived for his "A" school(CTN). His class doesn't start until January. He was told that CT's have the second largest drop out rate behind the seals. Any truth to this from anybody who's kids have already gone through "A" school? Just curious.

I know of a few that started as CTN's and changed to CTR's after the first week due to difficulty in testing. Beyond that i HAVE HEARD (Scuttlebutt) that CTN is a MUST STUDY program. Just tell him to work hard, play little until he get through it.
Assitionally he may have the opportunity to go CTR if dropped from CTN. I know of some females who went to CTR when dropped. You get two shots at each level i believe. My friend started with 22 and graduated with 13 picking up 3 along the way. So they dropped 12 and picked up three .Airman, Marines and Army personell take the same classes except for the fact that for the other branches this is their "C" school having taken previous training in their respective branches of the Armed Forces. That does not mean it is any easier for them than it would be for your son.
Best of luck to him.
Blue Angels practice Mon.-Wed. Naval Air Museum celabrating 100 years of Naval Aviation now.
Have him pick you up an Armed Forces tee (14.95 or get one online) at MCQiures Iris Pub. (Virtual Tour online) Senate bean Soup 18 cents, other foods a wee bit HIGHER geat Rueben appatizers.
CTN may be the roughest thing going. If he makes it, great - and best wishes. If not, and this is his first rate, he may find himself undesignated unless he really pushes the classification people at Corry. Mine was told he could not do any other CT after CTN when he left A school. But with perseverence he is doing very well in the next phase of his career.
Heads down, study hard all the time.
Thanks for the responses, I'll be sure to let him know of your answers.
Totally agree, CTN is second to SEALS for drop rates. SEALS are about 75 to 80%, where as CTN's are about 50 to 60%.
If you cannot grasp the course material, then they will allow you to cross-rate to another field. They usually will try to find you something in either the IT or CT fields since your SSBI access has almost been completed. However, let say your into the party mode at Corry, and you are dropped because you didn't try your best, then they will either send you to the fleet undesignated or they will discharge you.
One of the good things about CTN is, if they qualify for ION school (NEC 9108), then they will receive a $90K bonus at reenlistment time. It's one of the highest bonus's out there. There isn't many ratings that even give a bonus now because of our sucky economy, but with CTN there is..... But most don't take the bonus. They get out after their 1st term and work in the civilian sector. You can make soooo much more money....
My daughter just enlisted and this is the job she chose. I will let her know she has to study hard.
