My daughter is now at RTC.
Got the "Happy Father's day" email from my daughter over there in the gulf.
Made my day.
Bless you all
Hi All. Tomorrow will mark one year since my daughter left for bootcamp. She's now in Bremerton, Washington while USS Ronald Reagan undergoes planned maintenance. She's anxious to get underway, and loves deployment. Needless to say, just like you all, I am a very proud of my Sailor!
Hi, my daughter is now in DEP and excited to begin.
Haven't logged in or commented in a while, but my Depper is now less than 100 days from BC... funny to think that the time goes so fast, but the same can be said for them growing up... one day toddlers, and the next graduating from High School. Looking forward to the day that she 'ships' out to MEPS... knowing that the next time that I see her she will be a Sailor makes me prouder than any thing that I can think of. Still have to financially get through the graduation, but after that smooth sailing. Take care all and will be writing more soon.
Dear Christopher,
Thank you. What happens after she finishes A school at Pensacola NAS?
Vincent,
My daughter graduated last March (2011) and luckily she was stationed in GL for her A school so she had time off after the awesome ceremony.
Unfortunately, one of her brigade buddies was due to go to Pensacola and his parents went there instead of going to Great Lakes.
Depending on your sailor's A-school start date, she may me shipped out of Chi-town to Florida hours after the ceremony and you'll only have a sort time with her at the Naval Station.
Once you have some time with her, you are not going to believe the difference in her personality...a tremendous maturity that comes in such a short period of time. It's incredible!!
BTW - There is a Navy Lodge near the ceremony site and costs about $75 no tax for parents of graduating sailors. Not really walkign distance, but close.
Congratulations to your sailor and thank you to your family for the service.

My daughter is in Great Lakes Basic Training PIR March 2, rated E-3 AM slated for A school in Pensacola NAS. Curious to know what happens after 5 weeks of A school.
Michael... First of all "Welcome". Feel free to ask questions and post comments. This site is full of rich, informative content.
Our daughter's best friend is in Boot Camp right now. We are her "second family" as she likes to call us. My wife is "mom" to her and I am "Dad". Her biological father is absent and not involved in her life. He has no idea what his daughter has become. She is about 5' tall and weighs about 100 lbs with a wet wool blanket thrown over her. But she has shown that she has fire in her soul and steel in her spine.
My daughter leaves for Boot in January. There were times when she was she was about 14 -15 I would have gladly sold her to Gypsys or donated the living body to science. But now... My pride runneth over (and if I am not careful it will run out my eyes). I am a Vietnam Vet and have thirty years of Law Enforcement experience so I don't move easily. But I can share every emotion and every bit of pride that every member of this group feels.
Our "little" girls are far tougher than we think......they have stepped up to do something that few males do and they are very successful....they are far stronger internally than many of us have given them credit for!!
