Molly also made Petty Officer 3rd class end of the year and before that her and her husband welcomed my first grandchild Jacob Benjamin into the world on thanksgiving day.  We are lucky to have Jake and his Mom & Dad visiting for 10 days.

Congrats to Holly!!!  You too proud Papa (Kirk).

as an aside, I just posted the most recent Boat Show video from the "Abe" in the video area...in it DZ gives a tour of his rack and you can see typical berthing area on a carrier. You can see the limited size of storage area available...the video also show a bottom rack where I got to spend a couple of nights on my Tiger Cruise.....space is limited to say the least!!!

Actually, we're at the college of two of our daughters for the weekend (Parents Weekend/Homecoming & a football game) and I've already been shown where Andy sleeps and that he's receiving top-notch care. LOL! And, as a bonus, we're all going to Skype with our Navy daughter in about three hours!

LOL! We have an 8x10 storage unit rented for our daughter's "stuff." Be careful what you send your girls. If they're aboard ship, they're limited to a small storage locker and a "coffin" bed which is no larger than their boot camp bunk with a storage unit under the mattress. Our girl took a back pack, the sea bag & another bag to San Diego with her, and ended up sending home a large box with a lot of things for which there is no room.

Stuffed animals? LOL! Our middle daughter is a junior in college (and a future teacher!) and we've still got stuffed animals in her room at home. Except for a Panda bear, Andy, who is attending school with her. She and her friends have "adopted" him, and he goes to movies with them, out to dinner once in a while. We get text/photos of his adventures. She'll make a good Mom some day, and they'll always be our little girls.

My daughter is finishing API in Pensacola nest week; we're flying down to finish. She'll be heading on to Primary in Corpus Christi right away. We sent much of her stuff down via UPS, more is just waiting. We've always known our girls are special, and it's just proven again: look at what special women they've become.

Ok Navy dads, I was wondering how many of you went through this. I spent the last 2 days packing up Holly's room now that she's out of the house. It was a bittersweet event to say the least. A girls bedroom is like a time line of our lives. I found stuff I hadn't seen in years. It was a flood of memories that ran from grade school plays to waiting up for them to come home on Prom night. I gave the furniture to a neighbor with a new baby and I took the rest to the GoodWill. I never realized how many stuffed animals I had given her over the years or that she apparently kept them all. When you end up distilling their lives down into a few boxes it's a little unsettling. It was a little sad letting go of them but at the same time it was also cathartic to release her childhood and move into the future. Besides, my wife wants to an elliptical in there to hang clothes on ;)
