Tim, my daughter was Grad&Go and I literally had less than 5 minutes with her before she whisked off to the airport was on her way to "A School" in P-cola. I'm still darn glad I went. You'll enjoy the ceremony and I wouldn't trade that 5 minutes for the world. Also, when you write, send lots of pictures of friends and family. It's one of the few things they're allowed to have at BC and it can be a real lifeline for the recruits.

the first week they are in great Lakes is generally considered porcessing days and generally do not count toward the eights weeks. You'll get a form letter that will have her ship and division number....we have a link o in the About This Site area on the right side of every page that lists PIR dates by division....these are guidelines and subject to change if your sailor gets sick or has an issue with the run or other event.

So.....my daughter left here a week ago. She flew out on the 23rd. As a newby and a rookie, I obviously have many questions. I'll try to learn as much as I can by reading other posts, however, does anyone have any ideas when we should be planning a trip to Chicago? Is there x number of weeks from the time they arrive to the time they finish boot camp? (PIR?) Thanks guys, I appreciate all your help......Tim

So far Holly hasn't had to endure that much craziness but she said they definitely have their way of doing things and the most surprising thing is how quickly the sailors learn to no longer be surprised at the oddball stuff that goes on.

Well you would think the Navy would have a van to pick up your daughter at
the airport or call the base for a ride what %#@@ was it going to cost the Navy . Our govt. waste more money pork spending ( Cant wait for Nov.) Dont blame you one bit I would be hot too.

Whew what a week. I knew I would get a little emotional sending my daughter off on the plane after her first leave. The time went too fast, I havent been that bummed out in a long time and well I dont understand why our government can spend a few billion studying the mating habits of mosquitors but they cant book a non stop flight, hey even 1 stop would be nice. But not like her intinery was. Harrisburg, PA to Newark, NJ to Minneapolis, MN to Los Angeles, CA to Fresno, CA and then a $110 40 minute taxi ride to the base. Thats a little silly if you ask me.
