Does anyone have a recruit shipping on 04/12?

Rosie is now exactly one week away from departing for Great Lakes. Wow how time flies!

I'm not surprised that they've had slots open up at all, based on flu cases. West of Boston we've had entire schools close for 3-4 days because attendance was down to %40. There was another post over on Bootcamp thread that said they had large numbers of some divisions or trainers out with the flu. The Navy likely put out a notice to all recruiters stating that they had openings in upcoming weeks, and to accelerate DEPers if at all possible.
And no...no one other than her recruiter is going to know she decided to stick to the original date, and why would it matter.
I'm sure she'll be fine...and good luck to you both.

Our daughter had an interesting experience today. Her recruiter called and asked her if she wanted to leave on Monday, the 30th instead of Monday, December 7, which is her contract date. She said no as she still has some things she wants to do before she leaves. I have two questions.

1. Has anyone else had this happen? With the navy as crowded as it apparently is I would have thought they'd be asking recruits to wait a bit to leave, not leave early.

2. Will her decision to wait a week have any detrimental effect?

Also, on Navy.com, they don't list Great Lakes as an A school location. His DEP paperwork and his recruiter both state that his Advanced Electronics Technician A school would be in Great Lakes. Is the Navy.com site outdated? I realize it's not the official navy site.

Not much going on in the DEP group?...how come?...last comment is a month ago. That seems a bit odd?

Our son Christopher will be going active from DEP on Nov 24th. For some reason I figured that bootcamp classes would all start on a Monday, or a Friday, using the weekend for in-processing, but guess that was a bad assumption on my part.
Anyway, does anyone know if that week counts as their first week of bootcamp, or will they use Thanksgiving Day weekend to in-process and begin bootcamp on the following Monday?

Good morning ,
I am a recruiter in charge of a station in missouri. The reason your children are being told this is just as you have noticed; the Navy is full! We have very few people getting out because they know the recession will hurt the opportunities. And so many people are coming in we have a bottle neck in the pipeline. In short we want these young men and women to be responsible for their actions and be above reproach in today's society because they now represent the Navy. Thanks and let me know if I may be of any further assistance.

We were told that the Navy is looking for ANY excuse to kick people out. They are currently way over staffed.
