My son informed us last weekend that he has enlisted in the Navy and is DEP (going in November to Great Lakes for Basic). He is going for an HM job in A school after Basic. I read on another website that Hospital Corpsman school will change in July 2011 form GL to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX. Can anyone else confirm this? Thanks

Hi Bill- I came across your question doing some social media work for the US Navy. Congrats to your son on the big win! The Navy does, indeed, have a Men's Basketball team. Sailors with the skills to compete at this level attend a trial camp for a spot on the All-Navy Team Roster. I encourage you and your son to browse around the Navy Athletes Fan Page on Facebook http://on.fb.me/gIKT2z. It has additional sports info, and Sailors regularly stop by to answer questions. Let me know if this helps, and best of luck to your son!

thanks for the info it ended up being for a meeting to make sure he was actually committed to the navy because a couple of kids didnt show up for there ship dates and he will have more basketball because his team beat the number 9 ranked team in the U.S. by one point tonight for 2A basketball so he is pretty excited it was a really good game does anyone know if they do basketball in the navy?

Make sure your recruits get a flu shot at least 6 weeks before they go to boot camp. They WILL get another one at boot camp, but it takes 2-3 weeks to be effective. If they're immune BEFORE they to go boot camp, then that's one less illness that can make them miserable.
