Dennis, if he does well in his school, he can earn "pick of orders" so he can go pretty much wherever he wants. My cousin was with VAW-123 out of Norfolk, an E2C squadron. Don't know if they are still there or not.

Thank you Mark and Bob. My son joined in September and is now in Pensacola for training for ATO. He said he wants to start a new career and get out of auto mech's. He's hoping to be stationed on the east coast and work with the E2c Hawk Eye. From what I've found so far it's either PAX river or Oceana NAS. I / we live in Glen Burnie and will be in Annapolis for my wife's meet & greet on Sunday.

Welcome Dennis. Tell us about your recruit or sailor.

Yes Mark, actually I spoke with Verizon about a half an hour ago, and he had his phone set up for internation capability, which is not the same as global, but anyway all they needed was the last 4 of his social and they set it up for me, sent him a free text telling him what was done, and gave me a numbe to give him too call Verizon from Japan. He's in for a little shock as the rates are more than he had told me they were. But it's good that Verizon contacted him. I think that it will be a few days before he will be able to contact anyone at home. I imagine he'll be busy getting straight with everything that has to be done for him to get signed on or whatever. I was never in the Armed Forces of any kind, but paperwork and inoculations seem to be regular things when your moving around the globe.

Thats some real good advice from you about the power-of-attorney. I'm gonna' get right on that. Thanks.

Mike, if your son previously spoke to Verizon about Global capability, there may be something in the notes of his account and they may do it for you even though you aren't on the account anymore.

I would make a recommendation to all to get a power-of -attorney signed so you can act on behalf of your sailor. Also, get an "Advanced Directives" signed, which is the Maryland equivalent of a durable POA for healthcare. This is the last thing I did before taking him to the recruiting office last week. You can get the documents online for little cost at LegacyWriter.com
Your bank can notarize these for you.

My sons and E2, IC. He was supposed to have a phone set up with global capability, but called last night and said Verizon messed up. Wants me to go too the Verizon store, but I don't know what I'll be able too do being as the phone is now in his name and off my plan. I think the best way to communicate will be via the internet.

My son is eighteen and joined back in Febuary. He was home for a month after A-school then it was off too Japan. He'll be on the Navy's only foward deployed Aircraft Carrier, the USS George Washington.
