I asked him when SQT graduation would be and he told me he didn't know yet.  My guess is the beginning of November.

Things might have changed: my son tells me he won't know where he's going after the first Cell of SQT is complete until another couple of weeks.  I don't know, he simply could be observing OPSec.

Actually, I don't think they know much about their scheduled training beyond the fact that they'll be doing something!

No problem. Your son might not know much at times and might not want to tell much due to OPSEC at other times. We need to get used to this: it's the nature of their work.

Certificates are awarded once phase iii is completed.

Guy w. no. They get a certificate indicating they successfully completed BUD/S. they assemble in a classroom, get addressed by a senior officer, and that's it. They almost immediately begin SQT. The pomp and circumstance is observed at the end of SQT when they are pinned with the Trident. There are formal invitations to the Trident ceremony.

Guy W, the only "graduation" post BUDS was a certificate that was privately awarded (class en-masses) to each man post Hell-Week after medical monitoring.  I arrived along with his older brother the following Tuesday which our graduate was grateful (he was still licking his wounds) albeit somewhat rested.  No slight task, I felt not one to be ignored.  However, the main graduation along with presentation of his Trident will be post SQT. Good-luck to your son and your family; our thoughts and prayers are with you during this journey.

my son is in class 298 and is close to finishing phase 3. My question is this, is there a graduation after BUDS and before SQT or is the main graduation after SQT? He will not tell me much I would hate to miss something!

Thanks for the info.  Our guy's grandfather (USN, ret) is unable to travel, and is unhappy about not being able to attend in part because he was stationed in/around Coronado at the end of WW II. Pics & videos aren't as good as "being there", but will be important to him. To all the sailors and their families that started this journey, and to those that have completed it, you have made us  proud.  HooYah to All.
