Can anyone tell me if the Navy takes pictures during HW and makes them available to the guys or their families afterwards?

SEALs Celebrate 50 Years of Service

FORT PIERCE, Fla. (NNS) -- The National Navy UDT-SEAL Museum hosted its annual Veterans Day ceremony and Muster XXVI aboard Fort Pierce, Fla., Nov. 12-13.

The two-day event honored SEALs past and present. The Muster featured several events including a 5k run, U.S. Navy Leap Frogs jump, a memorial ceremony in honor of Veterans Day and a live capabilities demonstration conducted by East Coast-based Navy SEALs featuring military working dogs and a demolitions demonstration.

The Veterans Day ceremony also celebrated the approaching 50th anniversary in 2012, of the commission of the first two SEAL teams by President John F. Kennedy. The ceremony also included remarks from Rear Adm. Sean Pybus, commander, U.S. Naval Special Warfare Command; and former presidential candidate Ross Perot.

"Freedom is a privilege," Perot said. "Freedom is fragile, and you can lose it in a minute. You are the guardians at the gates of freedom."

On day two, Veterans and family members gathered on the beach at sunrise to honor 50 members of the Naval Special Warfare community, active duty and retired, who have passed since last year. Two SEAL team members delivered a wreathe and the ashes of one of the fallen members to his final resting place at sea, in accordance with his last wishes.

"You are going to hurt bad and you are going to want to quit," said retired Lt. Cmdr. Dante Stephensen, commenting on making it through training in 1959, with Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL Training Class 22. "If you quit it will be with you the rest of your life."

U.S. Navy SEAL "Leap Frogs" skydiving team conducted a demonstration after the UDT-SEAL memorial dedication ceremony.

"What you do for our country makes all the difference in the world in the lives of every citizen," said Perot while addressing the many retired and active duty members in the crowd. "Your service and sacrifices have given us the freedom we have today."

Congratulations Jeff, my son was there after the graduation and his group was ordered to eat the left overs from the banquet.  I doubt it took too long to clean it up considering the colories burned there.

273 gave a Black Trident from the Sea. I liked the statue next to the door of the Grinder of the Creature from the Black Lagoon. Can't remember the Class number that gave it.

It was a ten foot wood statue of Freddie the frog to be hopefully placed on the grinder

Jeff, what was the Class Gift to the Instructors?

Comment by RyeJim on November 13, 2011 at 9:57am

For the past 25 years I have had a framed passage hanging in my bedroom.  It is a father's prayer written by Gen. Douglas MacArthur.  It reads in part:

"Build me a son O Lord who will be strong enough to know when he is weak and brave enough to face himself when he is afraid. ..........Lead him, I pray, not in the path of ease and comfort but under the spur and stress of difficulties and challenge.......Then I, his father, will dare to whisper "I have not lived in vain."

--To all our sons of 292 as well as to all those sons and daughtors who serve our country, --Good luck and Godspeed!

Congratulations I know you enjoyed the time with your son and being able to salute his success. I graduated in 1963. The picture on my profile is myself and one of my instructors Tom Blais at a reunion 5 years ago. You know your son so if he is like many of us who;  just enjoyed being and didn’t save many mementos along the way, help him and save everything you can get your hands on tell he is ready to enjoy it. My wife did that for me but we weren’t married till I had been in the teams’ a couple years so most of that time is gone.

Jeff, Congrats to you Son. What a Milestone in all of your lives. I have never seen anything in my life that can compare with SQT Graduation.
