(Jan. 21, 2014) Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUDs) students participate in Surf Passage at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado. Surf Passage is one of many physically demanding evolutions that are a part of the first phase of SEAL training. Navy SEALs are the maritime component of U.S. Special Forces and are trained to conduct a variety of operations from the sea, air and land. Comment by jde on October 28, 2013 at 6:04am: Hi Keith, I looked back in my records and see that I bought my son's airline ticket last year on Nov. 6, so I think you'll hear soon. If you live near an airport that brings in Southwest, I would use them (if the prices are reasonable). They have no change fees. I remember last year not being 100% positive the dates wouldn't change.

Comment by jde on October 27, 2013 at 4:12pm: Keith, my son was in BUDS last Christmas and they got about two weeks off, similar to what Greg remembers. I don't remember when they were able to leave, but had to be back for the first Monday after News Years.

Comment by Greg on October 27, 2013 at 1:09pm: Keith~ when my son was in BUD/S they were off from approx. the 2nd week of Dec. until Jan. 2nd. Now it has been a little while, but that was our experience.
